Could my stomach ulcer be the cause of my weight gain, (and inability to loose it) bloating, burning upper stomach, constipation, and dhiarria?
No.: Ulcers don't cause weight gain, although they can certainly cause burning in the stomach area. Bloating, constipation and diarrhea are likely separate from the ulcer. Any time I hear this many abdominal complaints, what comes to mind is the probable need for dietary change, at the very least. You could have irritably bowel syndrome or several other problems as well. See your doctor. ...Read more
I have stomach pain when I am hungry. In addition I have constipation too. Does constipation create gas that cause pain? Or is it a symptom of ulcer
Unclear cause: Ulcers typically cause upper abdominal pain and could be associated with nausea and/or GI bleeding. Pain from constipation is typically in the lower abdomen. I'd suggest you address the constipation first with a high fiber diet, stool softeners (e.g. Colace) and fiber supplement (e.g. Metamucil). You may also need a laxative in which case I suggest mom or miralax (polyethylene glycol). Avoid taking asa/nsaids. ...Read more
Can a stomach ulcer cause bowel problems? Constipation/loose stool/cramping/gurgling/bloating/pain in lower left abdomen?
No: All GI complaints mentioned are totally unrelated to a stomach ulcer. The latter produces upper midline abdominal pain relieved by food or antiacids and if perforating posteriorly into lesser sac, the space behind the stomach, back pain develops. Constipation or loose stool related to diet or inflammation of bowel and if in sigmoid colon with diverticular disease. Lt. lower abodiminal pain noted ...Read more
Can taking to many laxatives cause serious stomach issues, like ulcer? I've been taking lax. Per dr. Cause constipated but been having TUMMY PAINS
Absolutely-depending: On agents, quantities & what altered responses which happen within you. Many laxatives stimulate ↑ed intestinal activity, contractions, intestinal cramping. While ulcers unlikely, intestinal cramping can be quite variable & painful. Agents may not be effective & may promote future constipation. Your primary physician always=self. Hi Dear doctor Unfortunately I had gastric ulcers when I was 21, it doesn't exist any more but I'm suffering from Constipation ; what's the treatment?
Constipation: Gastric ulcers are serious. I hope you are taking best care of your stomach. Constipation is typically a food and activity problem. Suffer from rectal ulcer with sessile polyp, I have continuos bloody mucous bleeding with constipation, am on pentasa (mesalamine) what to do else?
Rectal Ulcer: You are on Mesalamine for uc? Of course, the bleeding and mucus is likely associated with active ulcerative colitis. A large sessile polyp, if it is a true polyp and not a uc pseudo polyp, can secrete mucus itself. It sounds to me that your ulcerative colitis is still not under control. Having said that, the rectal ulcer is likely associated also with your active disease. Get a 2nd opinion. ...Read more
Stomach grumbling and feels hungry constantly. Also very bloated. Is this gas/constipation or ulcer?
Hard to say: Ulcers usually hurt, but not always. Bloating is unusual. You can try an OTC acid blocker for a few days and if it doesn't get better, be seen. Make sure you're not drinking alcohol, coffee, acidic stuff like soda, and eat bland foods that do not make you feel worse. Good luck! ...Read more

I have a black and tarry stool. At the same time I have a constipation; but after endoscopy I don't have an ulcer. What is the main reason to have a black stool and constipation if not an ulcer?
See below: Generally black tarry stool indicates upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Iron supplements and bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismal) can also turn stool black, although usually not tarry. If the endoscopy was normal you may be bleeding from the small intestine from Vascular anomalies (Angiodysplasia). Special studies are needed to diagnose these. Speak with your GI specialist. ...Read more
Stomach been hurting for 2 days because of ulcer, burning too. Haven't had bowel movement since pain started. Any link between ulcer/constipation?
Not eating?: Many people with ulcer pain have decreased appetite because of the pain on eating. They especially might avoid bulk foods that are high in fiber which would alleviate constipation. If you have an ulcer- you should be under a doctors care with medication that helps you feel better so you can eat. Stay away from alcohol, certain medications such as advil, ibuprofen, and caffeine products. ...Read more

I've got very low iron levels and recently being treated for ulcers. I've been constipated for 2 mnths now. Do u think its related to any of the two?
Constipation: Although iron deficiency does not cause constipation per se, iron supplements can cause constipation at times. If you are having this side effect, try increasing the fiber in your diet and maybe even taking a fiber supplement, such as Metamucil, with extra water. If this does not help, then switching to a different fiber supplement may be useful. Good luck. ...Read more

I have diarrhea as well as I [feel] constipated. I have the going and going... my stomach hurts -- and I think it's similar to what two of my friends had recently. I don't have a history of this sort of thing, however, I have had a peptic ulcer before in
Duration is key: The most intriguing part of your question is that two of your friends had something similar recently. To me that raises the question of whether you have an infectious colitis: parasite/Giardia, bacteria, etc. You need a stool culture after evaluation with your doctor. These symptoms can also be due to irritable bowel syndrome (which is common/your friends could have this, too!) Take care:) ...Read more

Probably not: A peptic ulcer (in the stomach or duodenum) will usually cause pain in the upper abdomen, and sometimes the pain radiates into the back. A rare but very serious complication is a perforation, which causes more generalized severe abdominal pain, but not pain that you would call an ovary pain. (but a cyst or other problem on the ovaries can occasionally cause upper abdominal pain). ...Read more
