Having a pain pump implanted for life. Now will all the side effects go away? Constipation, and feeling drugged. Also will urine retention go away to
Ask your doc!: I don't mean to be rude but your questions should have been asked prior to agreeing to undergo procedure. The answer depends upon what's being pumped in. If narcotics or opioids, then no one ever gets over constipation (sorry!). Good news is that you can develop tolerance to sedation ; feeling drugged. Urinary retention is problematic as it can also be due to enlarged prostate in add'n to opioids. ...Read more
Yes: Retention can be partial or complete. Obviously if one cannot void at all the bladder can only stretch so far until it becomes very painful. The cause should be found- most older women have a fallen bladder, and younger ones can have spasms in the pelvic floor muscles. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Was catheterized 12/6 in pm for urine retention and given flomax. Is it normal, when not drinking a lot to still be producing like 900 cc's of urine in a 4 hr time frame 2-3 days later?
Hhmm: Flomax is meant to work on folks with prostates... If you had surgery or received IV fluids during what sounds like a hospitalization, the body usually starts to get rid of the excess fluid 3-4 days later, as you get better. Makes sure your blood sugar is ok, since that can make you go more than you should. Sometimes after retention kidneys can't retain water well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
