Do Ovarian Cysts Always Show On Ultrasounds
Depends: Ultrasound is very sensitive to proper preparation for the test...A full bladder and no gas is important to see the ovaries adequately. If the ovaries are well seen then cysts on/in the ovaries are well seen...Need to know how well the technician felt they saw things during the test. ...Read more

I am 54 years old with a painful ovarian cyst for 4 years now. Ultrasounds show it is simple. Does it need to be removed? I am not menopausal yet.
Maybe: You do not mention how large or small it is. A large simple cyst can be painful just as a small one. If it does not respond to treatment and it is still painful, there may not be that many options left other than take it out. ...Read more
Same ovarian cyst for a year, discomfort sometimes. Ultrasound shows the same size but always there also endometrial thickening. Should I be concerned?
Probably ok: Small cyst are not uncommon and can cause pain. The thickening of the uterus can be related to your cycle (it varies throughout the month) at the time of the scan. If your cyst is stable in size over the last year and the pain is tolerable, probably not much to do about it. Just watch it. ...Read more
My daughter has a history of ovarian cysts. Recent ultrasound shows no cyst just lots of fluid around ovary and adhesion in ovary. What does this mean?
It would show up if: An ovarian cyst would show up on a ct scan as long as you had a scan of your abdomen and pelvis, and the cyst was large. Very small cysts would not be obvious on ct. Ultrasound is generally considered a better imaging modality for ovarian cysts, because it exposes the patient to less radiation and is a cheaper test. ...Read more
Had ovarian cyst rupture on 9/9. Latest transvag ultrasound & sonogram show no more fluid. No endometriosis. Why do I have pain especially when driving?
Rupture is serious:
Dermoids can have hair and teeth in them, so are complex on U/S, . The black stuff in the picture is hair. They often grow slowly but rarely rupture. If so, it's like appendicitis and needs immediate surgery.
U/S is a good screen for ovarian masses, but with a "surgical pelvis" CT is done. An early sign of impending rupture on U/S might be fluid in the pelvis, but this is not diagnostic. ...Read more

Could s simple 2 cm ovarian cyst on ultrasound that shows up as small enhancing cyst on ct scan be malignant in a premenopausal woman? No change in yr
Low chance: If the cyst is described as simple then there is only fluid inside. So no other growths inside the cyst. Simple cysts are almost always benign. The fact that it hasn't changed in a year is also a good sign. Overall, very low chance of being malignant. Ask your doctor to monitor it every year. ...Read more
My 15 yr old daughter's CT scan & ultrasound shows a right complex ovarian cyst, septated 6cm. 1st appt Monday seeing Gyn Dr. What is usually done?
To OR to rule out ca: Unfortunately, the only reliable way to tell if her ovarian tumor is benign or malignant is through exploratory surgery, preferably performed by an experienced gyn oncologist who will be prepared to remove the least if the intraoperative findings are benign and who can adequately "stage" her if a cancer is discovered. Seek a consultation and the care from such a gyn ontologic surgeon and team. ...Read more
I have just had an ultraosund which shows an ovarian cyst, and a positive ANA blood result. Is could there be a link, could the cyst be cancerous?
An U/S of anything: Shows size, shape, and consistency of the tissue, or inconsistencies that are fluid filled (cysts) or solid filled or at least not filled with water density...This can be menstrual cycle dependent as well, and ovaries are on both sides, with the tubes are called adnexa. Fluid in the abdomen acan also be seen. None of this provides a diagnosis: need cells or tissue. ...Read more
