Are prostate exams painful?

They shouldn't, but.

Urinary_bladder
Prostate exam for prostate cancer screen is usually performed digitally (with a gloved finger). It is a quick procedure to feel for nodules/masses. Pain depends on the individual; it is subjective. If there are cuts/fissure, previous trauma (emotional, physical or radiation) and or infection men may have pain. Most men do not experience pain with the exam, so P cancer screen should not be avoided.

Prostate Exams

First, this vital examination should be done if you have concerns, or symptoms of problems regardless of age. But, without symptoms, there is very little need to do a prostate exam until after forty. A prostate exam is a small part of predicting if you have any unwanted growth or other abnormality requiring more investigation. Do not be afraid to ask your health care provider when to examine

Dr. Robert H. Lim answered:

What does the doctor do at 18 for a prostate exam?

Prostate exam

Prostate_cancer
We do not typically do prostate examinations on an 18 year old. Typically we check this at age 40 for Hispanic and African Americans, and at 50 for Caucasians and Asians, mainly due to the increased risk at these age groups for prostate cancer.
