Transplant (Definition)

In medicine: a transfer from one body or body part to another of an organ (liver, heart, lung, kidney, pancreas bowel) or tissue (hand, face, hair). The immune system fights foreign invaders (like infections) so it will reject transplants from other people (allotransplants) because they look like infections. Is it risky to have a corneal transplant and lens implant during the same procedure?

Is it risky to have a corneal transplant and lens implant during the same procedure?

Minimally: The increase in risk is typically just the increase in risk of having a second procedure/cataract surgery which is minimal. If there is any significant cataract it usually makes more sense to take care of it while you are there rather than having to do it at a later time where it can compromise your transplant. There is a greater chance of a higher post-operative glasses rx with combined surgeries. ...Read more

If i get a hair transplant from my beard to scalp, will my beard grow back? I ideally would like my beard to grow back

No beard to scalp : The beard and scalp have completely different types of hair, and beard hair is not suitable for the scalp. Also, scars are left in the hair donor site. Even if the beard was a suitable donor site, you would not want to have these scars on the face. Donor hair should be taken from the back of the head where the hair density is sufficient. I use the Neograft technique, which leaves no linear scars. ...Read more

I'm 30 years of age and still have four baby teeth left and one of them is about to fall off. So do i need a implant or will it grow back?

Retained baby teeth: In all likelihood, there are no permanent teeth to replace your baby teeth, although it is possible one or more of them are impacted and may never erupt anyway. Radiographs can determine all of this. It is usually best to replace missing teeth with implant retained crowns. You should consult with a qualified dentist in your area to evaluate and discuss your treatment options. ...Read more
