This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. Will Valium and alcohol affect your alk phos, AST and ALT levels when a liver function test is performed. Alkphos29, alt110, ast38 bilirubin dir 0.4?
Liver function tests: Although valium is metabolized by the liver, it does not increase or decrease liver enzyme activity. Alcohol, on the other hand, depending on the amount consumed & frequency of consumption, can significantly elevate liver enzyme levels to a lesser or greater degree. Your alt is about 4 x normal; ast & direct bilirubin r minimally elevated; alk phos is ok. Tylenol (acetaminophen) can also affect liver enzymes. ...Read more

Any symptoms?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your liver function tests are in the normal range. Do you have any symptoms? Why were tests done? It is not feasible to be more helpful in this forum and you should discuss the matter with your doctor. ...Read more

Get a workup: Your physician may have you stop alcohol & meds & repeat; if normal it's your warning. Otherwise a check for hepatitis b & c, hemochromatosis, wilson's, autoimmune hepatitis, and a1at deficiency may be in order; all but the last are very treatable but likely to kill if ignored. Many things: If you have a fatty liver, then liver enzymes may be slightly elevated. If there is no acute hepatic infection, it may be chronic, or related to a virus you didn't test for, such as ebv. A common cause of elevation of lft is drug reaction. If you take any medications or fat soluble vitamins, they could be the cause. Can you help? Is 6.5, fasting glucose is 100, chloride is 96, lymphs is 3.2, liver ALT is 52, protein level is 2+ mean I am diabetic?
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, if your fasting blood glucose is 100 you are not likely to be diabetic. 2+ protein needs to be investigated. Fasting blood work 4 months ago. TBili 1.5, DBili 0.2, AlkPhos 44, AST 24, ALT 20. Now a dull ache under right ribs. Odds it is liver? Gallbladder?
Unlikely: I wouldn't be surprised if you had Gilbert's non-disease. Otherwise these labs are not suspicious for any liver problem. If this was biliary colic, you may have gallbladder disease, or a sore muscle or cartilage, or any of a number of other things. If it lasts over 2 weeks, get seen. ...Read more

Reasing. Every Lab has its own Reference range, so checking with your PCP would be the best as None of us would have a clue to the Reference your lab uses.
Overall your numbers are not terribly high, except the Alk phos, I think.
Best check with your PCP and maybe repeat the tests after 4-6 weeks time.

My daughter's recent ALT can back slight elevated which was normal last yr. Should I worry? Normal range of 32 she is at 38. Other liver tests normal
Don't worry.: There is probably nothing to worry about with this level, as long as she is healthy and all the other liver function tests are normal. How old is she and why did she have the lab work done? It is hard to fully answer this question without that information, so you are best discussing this with her doctor. ...Read more

Hello My ALT liver test was 41 one month ago and is now 55 two days ago. I'm not over eating, perhaps under eating as I don't eat past 8 pm tx?
You have "hepatitis": "Hepatitis" is a generic term that means your liver is inflamed. This can be caused by infection w/ viruses (like a, b, c, d, e, etc, cmv, ebv), parasites, bacteria. Non-infectious causes include alcohol, toxin exposure, occupational risk, drugs (like Tylenol (acetaminophen) overdose), familial liver diseases, ischemic damage, heart problems, infiltrative pathology ("fatty liver"), trauma, etc. Any test results? ...Read more

Not in & of itself..: A normal alt is around 50. Even though 175 is over triple this, it is not a very significant elevation. A dx, resulting from a good history and physical exam--with particular attention to liver and spleen size and lymph nodes--other blood test, including other liver function tests, tests for hepatitis, hiv, and tests indicated by h & p--is crucial. It may simply be 'fatty infiltration of liver'. ...Read more
How quickly do liver alt's alter themselves, what is the optimum re-test period for unknown cause isolated ALT raise?
Depends: If you recently had infectious mono, it might be best just repeat when you feel well unless you are super-sick. If discovered incidentally, two weeks after stopping alcohol and all meds is enough time for a drop to be clear if this is the cause. Otherwise, you'll get worked up for viral & autoimmune hepatitis, hemochromatosis, wilson's & perhaps a few others. Stay aerobically active if you can. ...Read more
Can motilllium (domperidone) cause liver alt^? Could you read my profile, and suggest where next I should be going - what tests? Desperation set in
Not likely: Motillium is not likely the source for your elevation of alt levels. Many other possibilities should be considered first likely chronic viral hepatitis, fatty liver, other medications or autoimmune liver disease. See a liver specialist (hepatologist) or gastroenterologist for formal work up if the elevation has been for 3 months or longer. ...Read more
Could my continuing & fluctuating mild alt elevations (50-90) be evidence of mild fatty liver. All other tests are negative inc fibroscan (6.6).Not fat. Used to be very active, still am to a degree but eat irregularly and late night due to shift work?
Liver injury: Mildly Elevated ALT indicates mild liver injury which can be due to viral hepatitis (sometimes other than hepatitis A, B or C), fatty liver, inflammation of the bile ducts, autoimmune disease or simply a reflection of inflammatory disorder in surrounding organs like in appendicitis or colitis. If this persists you should discuss the possibilities with your dr ...Read more

I just got my blood test result and it showed my ALT liver is 69. Something wrong with my liver? Why it is so high? I am very worry
Need evaluation: Do you drink alcohol? Are you on any medications? Alt of 69 is higher than normal but not that high. If you drink, stop for three months and redo the test. All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. ...Read more

If Hepatitis and Fatty liver test is negative, can having consistent elevation in S. ALT (57 IU/L for 3 yrs, doesn't change) be a medical emergency?
Liver tests: There are several different forms of infectious hepatitis -A, B and C are the major ones. If you've been tested for Hep B and are negative -you should probably at least get a Hep C test to be sure about that. You must have had an ultrasound to evaluate if you have fatty liver or not? There are other causes for a raised ALT -so it would be nice to figure this out. See a GI doc (gastroenterologist). ...Read more
