7yo in cast for buckle fx wrist (ulna) 2 day ago. Holds wrist against chest, afraid to move. Ok for her to do 2 lb weight rom elbow and mainta bicep?
Why worry: The common buckle fracture is not displaced, does not reduce the integrity of the bone and all heal well. They can still hurt like crazy. Leave the kid alone and let him/her resume activity when the hurt subsides. Pain tends to subside after the first week & soon after you may have trouble keeping the kid from battering the cast off. ...Read more

2 weeks: I'm guessing this is an elbow dislocation, since the shoulder really can't be casted. This depends on the severity of the injury and whether surgery was needed, but in general terms a dislocated elbow will be immobilized in a cast for about 2 weeks, and then will be switched to a hinged brace to begin protected range of motion. ...Read more

This sounds like LOIN pain or renal colic.

I had my cast off after having a clean break on my 2nd metatarsal, I know it will be painful and swollen after, but do u know how long for??
Fractured Metatarsal: First of all, I assume that you have had the cast for at least 4-6 weeks. Usually it takes this long for a bone fracture to heal. It will continue to be slightly sore and swollen for up to another 2-4 weeks. If the X-rays show that the fracture has healed, you can attempt weight bearing on your foot gradually as tolerated. You should also take anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, naproxen).. ...Read more

Kids tend to heal very quickly. The so-called "hairline" fracture describes a fracture that is only minimally displaced and as such is in a good position and typically has good remaining blood supply.
Additionally, the area of the wrist (if this represents a distal radius fracture) is typically very well vascularized and with the type of bone that heals quite quickly.

My 14 yr old son broke his metacarpal 3.5 weeks ago. It has been casted from day 1 of break. What are the chances he can get his cast off tomorrow?
Ask the ortho: This question requires a lot of knowledge of the break, and a determination of how it's healing. I'm assuming you have an appointment tomorrow to assess this very thing. I would never plan on getting it off by scheduling something he needs it for the next day, but if it's healed well, there's a chance. ...Read more
