You also likely have: Ptsd. Your therapist should be empathic, caring and understanding. Beyond that he or she should understand abuse dynamics and betrayal. Solid psychodynamic fundamental understanding is very helpful. Once you feel strengthened through a supportive therapy, then you can incorporate cognitive behavioral techniques. This is my opinion based on thirty years of treating abuse victims. Practice spirituality as well. Yoga can be helpful and psychiatric treatment medications can also be helpful. Best wishes. ...Read more

The : The short answer is yes, prolonged stress can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, and we are beginning to understand better that sudden severe emotional trauma can cause cardiac events and is often referred to as "broken heart syndrome" although the exact causes for this are poorly understood. It sounds as if you have a lot going on in your life and i would highly recommend that you find someone you can talk to or a counselor who can help. ...Read more

I suffer from social anxiety disorder and depression should I see a psychiatrist or psychologist? I have several different meds over the last 15 years. I usually discontinue the meds due to the side effects and wind up back on when I have a stressful tim

Hi, : Hi, more often than not, in this age of managed care medicine, psychiatrists treat patients with psychiatric medications and clinical psychologists provide different forms of talking therapy. Often the most successful outcomes are from a combination of the right medications hand- in - hand with different forms of non-medication therapy. I can understand how your trust levels could be low, if you have not had good outcomes from treatment in the past. Both depression and anxiety can be hard to treat. But, if you get no care at all, it is certain that you will continue to suffer from anxiety and depression. Even with treatment you can often take one step forward and two step backs which equates to frustration. Overcoming your anxiety and depression is much like trying to run up an escalator that is going down. If you don't try at all, you will always be stuck at the bottom of the escalator. Even when you are working your way up, sometimes you can't keep up with the pace of the escalator and it can take you back down again. You might reach the top but have new major life stressors that bring you down again. But, your efforts will pay off in the end. Your conditions are treatable, but you will need to make a serious committment to becoming more healthy. Over the last 15 years, some incredible new psychiatric medictions have been introduced. If the doctor who previously prescribed your medications was a family or general doctor, i recommend that you see a psychiatrist for medication management. I also recommend you see a therapist; whether it be a licensed clinical social worker, a counselor or a clinical psychologist. You want to work with a therapist you can feel comfortable with - but a warning: it is usually a little scary and akward any time you start sharing your life story with someone you have just met. You need to take advantage of the therapy; even if it is not a time of crisis or you are starting to feel better. As you are looking for an appropriate therapist, you might want to enquire if the provider is trained to do cognitive behavioral therapy - as this can be very helpful with both of your conditions. Don't lose hope, the right help is out there. I wish you well. ...Read more

I am unable to see a doctor because of no income but I am getting ready to be awarded social security because I have severe neck and back problems. Can someone prescribe me pain medication?

Pain management is : no easy task to get anymore in the US. For one, the pain meds you can get OTC (over the counter), you'll have to pay cash for since they are off patent, and your diagnosis will determine which pain medicine will work best for your condition. A few stronger pain meds like narcotics require special prescription by pain management experts. You can seek free Med care in public health/county hospitals. ...Read more

I have severe OCD of health issues and am also facing an auto immune diagnosis I can't stop crying and basixally planning my funeral I have tried Zoloft (sertraline) and Prozac nit working any advice?

Talk w/therapist: First, you need to know that an autoimmune diagnosis can be serious, but is not an automatic death sentence. Second, please know that medications do not replace the benefit of talking regularly with a skilled psychotherapist -- you should look for one who's comfortable with people going through medical procedures & what that's like. This could certainly be a psychiatrist if s/he does therapy! ...Read more

First, : First, try to get a second opinion either through tricare, or request that tricare cover a second opinion for you. Hopefully you can establish closely with a good primary care doctor (family practice or internal medicine), as well as a gynecologist, so that you can get your health care under control. Write a detailed letter explaining your medical concerns both to tricare and to give your new doctors so that they will understand your concerns. ...Read more
