Do I Have To Take A Prescription Prenatal Vitamin
Do i need a prescription for pre-natal vitamins? I am trying to conceive and had been advised to start using pre-natal vitamins. Can i just get over-the-counter vitamin, or do I need a prescription one? If using over-the-counter is ok, how do I know which
No: Most (not all) prescription vitamins are actually inferior to what you can get over the counter if you shop wisely. AVOID folic acid. You actually want to take a mix of folinic acid and methylfolate instead. You need folate (folic acid): The most important vitamin during pregnancy is folic acid. Speak with your obstetrician to make sure you are getting what you need. Most of what else you need you can get from whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and whole grains and it will probably be better for the baby. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have to take a blood test to measure a vitamin deficiency. Since I take a multivitamin, when should I stop taking it to make sure results ok?
Whoa: Who is asking you to do this? What is the purpose of this testing if you are already supplementing? Be very careful -- there are several phony labs that offer bogus "vitamin testing." If you have any doubts, get a second opinion. Best wishes. ...Read more
Yes: Any basic multivitamin is fine to take while pregnant. Prenatal vitamins have extra Folic Acid which is important for prenatal growth and iron to help you maintain a healthy iron count. Newer studies tell us the importance of dha for prenatal development so i would recommend a vitamin with dha. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I am taking a vitamin b complex supplement daily, can I take a daily multi vitamin in addition to that and if so what would you recommend i take?
Yes: While b complex is often helpful, it doesn't have the many other essential nutrients found in a multivit. As long as the total amount of b6 in both supplements doesn't exceed 200 mg (which is unlikely) it's safe to take both, though it may not be necessary to take an extra b complex if you get a good multivitamin. There are many good brands- see http://bit.Ly/1b36cq0 any in the top 30 are great. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have try to concieve..
I have take vitamin C tablets 1000mg and folic acid ...
Is it good or bad?
Good, also take...: All women who are trying to conceive should take Folic Acid to reduce risk of birth defects- it's most important in the first weeks, often before you know you're pregnant. 1/3 of people can't convert Folic Acid to the active form, so i advise that form, called l-5-mthf. I recommend everyone take 1000 mg of vit c 2x/day. I also advise a good prenatal with biotin, which also prevents birth defects. ...Read more

What can happen if you don't take your vitamin D pills can I just get Sun or do I have to take them?
It depends: If your Vitamin D level is very low (30 or less), taking Vitamin D supplements would be a good idea at least temporarily. You can also be out in the sun, but it will take longer to build up to healthy Vitamin D levels that way -- and presumably this isn't sustainable in your usual lifestyle or your level wouldn't be low in the first place. Your doctor who knows you can give the best advice. ...Read more
With chewable prenatel vitamins why is there no iron in the ones i can find? What should I do if i take them should I take a iron supplement?Wutkind?
No. Measure first: Iron is a mineral that is required for the production of red blood cells as well as for thyroid.Function and more. Too much iron can be dangerous so unless you are low in iron and ferritin (iron stores) you should not be supplementing iron. To measure, start with the cbc. Typical iron deficiency will show a low red cell count, low hemoglobin and a low mcv. Next measure serum iron and ferritin. ...Read more
