Was it cotton swab?: If you used a cotton swab to "clean" your ear, there is a significant risk that you scratched (caused abrasion of) your outer ear canal--which could have led to an outer ear infection. The other possibility is that you may have packed the earwax down into the canal so as to wedge it causing undue pressure on that part of the ear--triggering jaw pain.
