Do Hives Normally Last A Long Time
Off and on: In the vast majority of cases they disappear within a few days or weeks. During that time it will come and go and move around the body. Each hive should appear and disappear rapidly (less than 24 hours). If the hive-like rash is fixed and doesn't move around or leaves scars, it's not typical hives and should be examined by a doctor. A few people will have hives for a very long time, up to years.See 1 more doctor answer
I went into anaphylaxis shock three weeks ago every time I try to eat I break of in hives how long does this last?
Anaphylaxis: After an episode of anaphylaxis, you definitely must see an allergy specialist. You sound as if you may have a food allergy, in which case you will continue having reactions as long as you continue to eat the food causing problems. Usually it is only one main food, or a couple, that are to blame. If you had anaphylaxis once, you can have it again! Get an Epipen (epinephrine) and see an allergist soon.
If the small red bumps that come and go are hives due to allergy could this be developed over time to a laundry soap. And how long will it last?
Unlikely: The mechanism for contact allergy or an irritant reaction to laundry soap is different from that causing the bumps. Have you consulted an allergist about this?
How long hives last: It depends on what is causing them. If it is a food/medication, they usually stop after allergen is out of your system, 1-2 wks. There is many different causes of hives. People who have autoimmune urticaria (hives) can have it for a lifetime. Usually if hives last for more than 6 weeks, they are considered chronic and a workup is done to determine cause. Unfortunately cause is not always found.
Varies: Food - day (s) virus - days continued exposure - chronic.
Unusual: It is unusual to get hives from pet danger but nonetheless it can happen when one is very highly allergic. With a single exposure, most people should recover in 1-8 hours. However if your clothing or hair has been contaminated with the dander, the reaction may return until you have them cleaned.
Length of hives vary: There is no "normal" length of time that hives may last. "acute" hives may last from a few minutes to hours to up to one month. Hives that last more than a month are considered "chronic. ".
Extremely variable: Some people may have rapid resolution if the cause is addressed. Other people might have hives for hours to days.
Days to weeks: Usually they resolve in a few days. In rare instances hives from antibiotics may take several months to resolve.
See a dermatologist: A steroid shot is not a treatment of choice for hives. Due to blood transfusion? Was it really necessary? Do you really have hives, or something else? How long have you had this? Ever before? Using antihistamine? Which one at which dose? Why estrogen AND Premarin (conjugated estrogens) AND Provera??? No wonder you are bleeding.See 1 more doctor answer
Difficult to answer: Hives are usually self-limited and go away by the 6 week mark; however, some cases become chronic and can last a lot longer.
May come and go...: Hives may come and go for weeks. It also depends on what caused them in the first place and whether the offending agent has been removed from her environment (ie, her diet, what she wears...). Once you develop an allergic reaction that causes the body to react, histamine, a chemical is released, and causes the hives. This reaction can go on for weeks.
Is there anything to take to lower the increase of patches of hives in a 3 year old. And, how long do hives last.?
Read on: Of course try to figure out the cause of the hives or they will constantly recur. U can give benadryl, (diphenhydramine) call ur dr for the dosage, or u can give some of the once a day antihistamines as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can make them tired. Hives can last about three to five days possibly longer but consult ur dr if much longer especially if u can't figure out the reason for them.
Unpredictable: Unfortunately this is one of the most difficult if not impossible questions to answer. For hives as a result of a food allergy they should only last a day or 2 as long as the food is not continued. The problem comes in when the underlying source is not clear. Arbitrarily after 6 weeks hives are labeled chronic. The short answer is hives can last minutes to a lifetime.See 1 more doctor answer
Virus induced hives?: Good morning, hives result from release of histamine and other mediators (compounds) due to immune system being challenged such as an allergic reaction. Many viral infections are associated with hives. Hiv is a virus. In addition, HIV is known to affect immune regulation. The duration of hives after a viral infection can last from months to years.
I get hives 3 times last month. Can't tell what is causing it. Not allergic to anything. Any ideas?
Non-allergic hives: Hives lasting over 6 weeks are called chronic and are almost never allergic and almost always "idiopathic" or of unknown cause. These hives are probably due to a problem controlling the cells in the skin which make and release histamine, mast cells. Bloods testing is almost always negative. Management involves giving larger than normal doses of multiple antihistamines. See an allergist.See 1 more doctor answer
