Ankle Brace: Well it depends what type of pathology you are presenting at the time of exam. If for example you have a lateral ankle sprain stage 1 to 3, a standard laced up ankle or stirrup ankle brace would suffice. Ortho said my ankle is a chronic sprain even though it's been five months. Hurts to lunge and can't do sports. Only said PT, why no boot or brace?
See Below: Ernest, if you have a chronic sprain, a boot won't help. At this point, you need to strengthen your ankle and lower leg muscles in order to take burden off of the joint. This is why your orthopedist recommended PT. In fact, a boot or brace could actually weaken those muscles. If PT doesn't help, speak with your ortho, because more testing may be needed.
