See Below: Ernest, if you have a chronic sprain, a boot won't help. At this point, you need to strengthen your ankle and lower leg muscles in order to take burden off of the joint. This is why your orthopedist recommended PT. In fact, a boot or brace could actually weaken those muscles. If PT doesn't help, speak with your ortho, because more testing may be needed.
