Do Diet Pills Cause High Eye Pressure
Some may: Very few medications cause elevated eye pressure in and of themselves. Some eyes are shaped in such a way as to be at risk for increased pressure (narrow angles). Certain medications are able to cause narrow angles to become even more narrow, causing the pressure in the eye to elevate. If you are at risk for certain glaucomas, you should see a doctor before starting any new diet medication. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Anorectic agents generally known as diet pills are medications which decrease or inhibit appetite and aid in the reduction of food intake, therefore aiding weightmloss. Most currently FDA-approved appetite medications are dispensed by prescription due to potential side effects and contraindications. Diet pills alone are seldom successful in deriving long-term weight reduction. They should only be taken under the direct supervision of a physician specifically trained in their use as a part of a multi-modal treatment program including diet, exercise, ...Read more
Yes: Diuretics can increase your risk of developing gout, a type of arthritis caused by the deposit of uric acid crystals in a joint. This may happen because diuretics make you urinate more, which reduces the amount of fluid in your body. But the remaining fluid is more concentrated, which can increase the risk that you'll develop the crystals that cause gout. Some types of diuretics also reduce the kidneys' excretion of urate, a component of uric acid. There are many other types of blood pressure medications that don't increase your risk of gout. Also, many of the measures you take to reduce blood pressure have the added benefit of lowering uric acid. These measures include: Eating a healthy diet, with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables and whole grains and reduced servings of meat and whole-fat dairy products, Drinking little to no alcohol, Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight based on your body mass index. ...Read more
Water follows sodium: People with hypertension take diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide as a first line treatment. Diuretics cause the kidneys to excrete more sodium into the urine, water follows sodium, therefore there is less water in the blood vessels. Pressure against the arterial walls therefore decreases. This is also incidentally why a dash diet works. Decreased sodium in the diet=lower pressure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

No, : No, i would not recommend taking diet pills if your blood pressure is high. Many diet pills can raise your blood pressure. Also i would not recommend taking herbal medications for diet as they can also often raise the blood pressure. Try to walk a mile a day if you can, drink adequate water, and reduce your salt intake as much as you can, as these will help both your blood pressure and weight. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Possibly: Floaters are usually a natural condition that occurs as the gel that fills the back of the eye forms cracks over time. High blood sugar can lead to damage, abnormal blood vessel growth, and breaks in the small blood vessels in the back of the eye, which can in turn cause bleeding in the eye. You may experience this as floaters. An eye doctor can quickly determine the cause of your floaters. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How do OTC sleeping pills/allergy pills and aspirin cause blood pressure to be high in a sort of "rebound effect"?
Let's clarify: Plain antihistamines (most otc sleeping aids and allergy meds) have a marginal effect on bp. If, however, the allergy pills contain a decongestant too, this can raise BP temporarily while in your system. The anti-cholinergic effects of some plain anti-histamines can raise pulse and vascular tone enough to raise BP a little. I have never heard of Aspirin causing a rebound in blood pressure. ...Read more
Controversial: I have not seen it work for the couple patients who tried it. There are only small trials with garlic in this setting and the results haven't been conclusive. However, cutting your salt consumption will for sure help lower your blood pressure. Weight loss, smoking cessation, exercise, decreasing alcohol consumption are other non pharmacologic measures which will lower your blood pressure. ...Read more
