Do Cough Drops Help Sore Throats
Other idea: While sucking on cough drops is unlikely to be harmful and may help throat irritation, consider seeing a health care provider to assist in finding out why the sore throats are occurring. With that information, it may be possible to prevent the sore throats in the first place.
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Sore throat: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.
My favorite: My favorite is a classic "hot toddy." specifically I use a camomile tea with honey, lemon juice and either rum or whiskey (about half-a-shot). The choice of spirits is up to you. The point is to drink a warm liquid that will relax you and open up your airways. (adult only for alcohol, however, lemon, honey, and tea can be used alone for those abstaining or kids.).See 2 more doctor answers
Have had a sore throat for three days, not too bad, but my cough drops say I should see a doctor if it lasts longer than two days. Is that true?
It's true.: If it says so on the label it must be true! As a doctor I can't say that makes much sense - most sore throats are viral and do last more than three days. If it is progressively worsening or is associated with serious side effects see your doc. Otherwise take the lozenges

All supportive care: If you do have HFM disease, it's all supportive care. Pain meds (Tylenol/Motrin), plenty of fluids & what you are already doing. Sometimes Maalox can help with the pain if you hold it on the back of your throat. Popsicles and other cold liquids can help. If bad enough, there are prescriptions that your MD can phone in as well.

Uvula swollen, runny nose, and allergies and I don't have a fever and no sore throat. How would I treat this at home? I have tried cough drop they hel
Swollen uvula: This sounds allergic and should be treated with antihistamines to start. Corticosteroids might be required due to swelling. If the swelling worsens or does not remit quickly, I would seek medical attention quickly. This could be a serious sign.
