No: There is no need for and no benefit of doing colon cleansings. Your colon cleanses itself by having bowel movements. There is no buildup of toxins anywhere in the colon. Colon cleansings are unnecessary and can be unhealthy. Stick with a high-fiber diet for good colon health! Good luck. ...Read more

Not a fan: I am not a fan of these techniques. Your colon is made to handle a high bacterial load and eliminate wastes. Proper nutrition and a high fiber diet with good hydration help it to work better in doing this. Aggressive cleanses can upset electrolyte balance and lead to colon irritation as well as upset normal bacterial flora (and lead to things like c-difficile colitis). ...Read more
Crazy: Dr nguyen and heller are quite correct. The state of texas prosecuted practitioners of colonic cleansing because the procedure was ineffective and dangerous. This is outlawed in texas now. Patients were killed by perforation of the colon by inexperienced practitioners. This is a practice without scientific basis, in a word - quackery. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

No: They are a scam and simply make money for unscrupulous practitioners. At least they are safer than the crazy schemes in which you eat/drink something awful that can land you in intensive care. Your liver cleans itself and doesn't need help. If you really care about your liver, drink alcohol only on special occasions if at all, and get back into a fitness-focused lifestyle. ...Read more
It depends.: In reality, colon cleansers do not work for anyone, since they are unnecessary. The colon does a fine job of cleaning itself out, just in the process of having bowel movements. Don't waste your $: Healthtap physicians have repeatedly addressed this subject with a clear "no" answer to colonics. There is virtually no value to colon flushes, cleansers, enemas, irrigation machines when the technique is accomplished to "detox" or eliminate "accumulated waste." the "no" response also applies to liver detoxes! there are few real health benefits, but sigificant unjustified risk. Don't "cleanse". ...Read more

Scheduled for colonoscopy but afraid magnesium citrate won't clear my colon. Docqulace and bisacodyl failed to evacuate colon. Will the citrate work?
AlwaysAGuess; agent,: dose & response relationships with all the usual complex individual variables. Just keep up clear liquids. Awareness of heart beats both a focus & a self-distraction (from other greater) issues. ...Read more

rids some poop: Yeah, this was a popular idea in ancient egypt, but was disproved decades ago. You will get rid of some stool. No one ever measured "toxins" supposedly removed before and after the rx to see if it worked. Empty bowel may look flatter, maybe you feel better, but not detoxed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
