Do Beans Make You Constipated
What can I do for constipation. I've had it since wednesday night. Soup with barley and beans. Did not eat thanksgiving food.?
I am vegan and only eat whole foods (fruit, veg, whole grains, beans, etc.), and I drink 2-3 L H2O/day, yet I've been constipated recently. What's up?

Depends on goal: Lentils have high protein content. Cannellini beans have higher protein content, but also more carbohydrate and so for losing weight, may not be a better choice. Edamame has high protein, lower carbohydrate content, but soy beans have enzyme inhibitors which may block the action of enzymes for protein digestion. Fiber is good but: If you are not drinking enough fluid it can lead to constipation. Remember caffeine and alcohol dehydrate and lead to constipation. Generally I recommend 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/alcohol free fluids every day. It will take 10-14 days of this regimen to see improvement. Constipation: Frequency of bowel movement varies from person to person but if you have to strain to produce hard stools, you're probably constipated.
