Could excessive use of baby wipes down there cause pimples?

Diaper rash: Some wipes have soap, fragrance and alcohol. These can irritate their skin. However, this is more like an irritation type rash. It could also be an allergy to the wipes. It could also be just from urine or BM. Switch to a sensitive skin soap and a soft baby wash cloth, till it's clear. If this doesn't work, have it looked at. If it clears, try the wipes again and see what happens. ...Read more

Possibly: Hello,

What a great question! While some experiences do predict future health issues, in this case it's not necessarily going to predict future acne. The mom's hormones are working their way out of the baby's system, and in the future the baby will make her/his own when puberty comes. Take care. ...Read more

7 week infant has baby acne and dry skin on face. What can I do to help? How long does thr acnd usually last?

Patience: Baby acne is a common and temporary problem. It usually appears by age 2 weeks and disappears by 3 months. Keeping the skin clean is the major plan. If it persists after 3 months and or intensifies, some normal ace treatments can be beneficial, but the doc should look into unusual hormonal issues as a cause at that point. ...Read more

My kids recently treated for scabies. I'm worried that what I thought was acne on my baby may be scabies. How are they treated on babies. She's 1 month.

Wait and see: The medicine for scabies is a last resort in infants. It's really icky and potentially toxic for babies, so the preferred approach for safety would be to wait and see if it's acne and will get better on its own. Good luck. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! ...Read more

18 days old developed an allergy that looks like baby acne. Do babies develop this condition weeks after birth? Rash is only on forehead and cheeks.

Baby acne: The baby acne is a common event that reflects hormones transferred during the pregnancy. While the baby is floating in moisture, the skin is will not respond, but within 1-3 weeks after birth they break out for many weeks until the hormone levels drop & the acne disappears. Keeping the skin clean ; avoiding irritating soaps helps. It has no relationship to allergy. If it persists > 3mo see the doc ...Read more

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Not advisable: There is much folklore surrounding the use of urine as a cure-all, but little evidence of any benefit. Urine should be sterile and not cause disease, but there are much better treatments for both oral thrush and acne. Baby acne does not need treatment and will go away on its own. Benzoyl peroxide is far more effective for treatment of adult acne. ...Read more

Does baby acne leave any scars? Does gently wiping the face with a baby wipe after feeding and milk spit ups going to make things any worse?

Soap & H2O better: (I am not a pediatrician, but I am a father.) Neonatal acne does not normally leave scars. It usually goes away on its own. In the meantime, I would recommend using just soap (eg, very dilute baby shampoo) and water on a soft wash rag, and avoiding commercial wipes that may have allergenic oils and fragrance. ...Read more
