Do Babies Poop After Every Meal
Hi, My baby is now 1 year old and poops after every meal/drink (almost 5 times a day) the consistency of the poo is normal. Is it normal?
Can be: There is a basic process called the gastrocolic reflex. It is a wave of stimulation that sends a "move on" message to our gut after we take a volume of material into our stomach. The reflex may or may not trigger an emptying, but it is part of normal digestive action. You possibly reduce the frequency of emptying by adding some cereals or bananas to the diet.Plums/prunes/apple juice give more stools ...Read more
Reflex: You have an active gastrocolic reflex so that when food enters your stomach, it sets off a reflex that sends waves of contraction down your entire intestinal tract leading to a bowel movement. If you can't slow it down by experimenting with your diet, a medication like bentyl (dicyclomine) taken 1/2 hour before eating usually calms down this reflex. Has your diet: changed? If so, that could be the cause and is nothing to worry about. As your system gets used to any new eating pattern, your stooling pattern may return to the more common one of 1-2 stools(poop) per day. If this continues or you haven't changed your diet, and if there is abdominal pain and/or vomiting with it, be sure to call your doctor to discuss. ...Read more

Can't keep food in my body. After every meal, I end up running to the bathroom in pain, and its very loose. And there is a lot of mucus in my stool.
Stool urgency: If this is an acute problem, it is most likely due to an infectious cause, most of which resolve spontaneously it a few days. If it is a long-term problem, though, you may have irritable bowel syndrome. If so, try increasing your fiber intake, along with extra fluids. If this doesn't work, or if it is an acute problem which does not go away in a few days, see your physician. Good luck. ...Read more
