Depends on which one: Most antibiotics used in dentistry are safe for the mom and the breast feeding baby. Sometimes penicillins (amoxicillin), cephalosporins (keflex), and macrolides (z-pack) may cause your baby to have loose stools. Tetracycline is the one that causes discoloration of baby's teeth if taken while pregnant. One rarely prescribed antibiotic, chloramphenicol, should not be used while breast feeding. ...Read more
Be careful: Side-effects of most antibiotics are not dangerous, an allergic reaction to a medication potentially is. Thus, while nursing all medications should be used with caution. When taking an antibiotic, always monitor your baby and look for signs of respiratory distress, irritability, diarrhea and rash. Hi I 've a sore throat for a month now, just finished a weeks course of antibiotics but hasn't cleared, am breastfeeding. Have red spots on throat.?
Reassess....: Unless these spots are making it hard for you to breathe, I would make an appointment to see your doctor who prescribed the antibiotic, and have them reassess. What should be done together with antibiotics to treat a recurring mastitis in breastfeeding mother?
I'm done breastfeeding but I was put on antibiotics for mastitis. Do I still need to pump or can I just let my milk dry up without having to pump?
Can let dry: If you are done breastfeeding, then you can put on some sports bras to help with the engorgement following cessation of breastfeeding. Ibuprofen can help with pain from engorgement as well. But if you're on the antibiotics, you don't have to pump the infection out, if that's what your question is. The infection should heal with the antibiotics. Compresses can help too. ...Read more
