Hiv DNA PCR dectected on 4/08/13 and antibody negative.Still now 6/3/13 8 weeks later still show HIV anitbody negative. What are your thoughts? Is the PCR a false positive?
Not necessarily: Is it really the dna or the RNA pcr? The dna qualitative pcr is the most sensitive test and may become positive months before antibody is detected. The quantitative RNA pcr that is used for monitoring also becomes positive early. Antibodies may not develop until 3 months from the infection. So, they may still develop.
