Our child has to do dmsa test. He is 7months old. He was effected clabsiella bacteria when he was 1month. How does the test done? Why he need dmsa?
To see any damage : The test is done by injecting the baby with Technetium 99m DMSA and after an hour taking a nuclear image of the baby's back. They ordered it to make sure that the infection has been completely eliminated by the antibx. Dmsa test: Dmsa test is a functional renal scan where you injected with the isotope and it is cleared by the kidney. Functional renal tissue will pickup the isotope and appears brighter than the back ground. relative function of left kidney - 68.8
relative function of right kidney - 31.2
Kidney test: So her left kidney does more work than her right one. It doesn't really matter unless her overall kidney function is abnormal or there is some type of concern that her kidneys are damaged for some reason. Most people have one kidney that is dominant over the other. Why was test done in first place - what kind of problems is she having.
