Other possibilities.: The Thyroid is not the only endocrine gland that affects metabolism, mood, menstrual cycles and hair follicle activity in women your age. It's quite possible that you are experiencing peri-menopause, or that you have Vitamin D deficiency. Has the enlargement of the thyroid gland been confirmed/examined with ultrasound? More likely a muscle: If you have pain when touching the area, it is more likley to by a mild injury to your sternocleidomastoid muscle. Agree with FNA.: That's certainly concerning. Infection is doubtful given that it's a whole chain. Any other enlarger nodes elsewhere. Might consider hodgkins lymphoma in someone your age. Usual head and neck cancers seen in much older patients. Pet scan worthwhile and would order. ...Read more
