Distal Humerus Fracture Recovery
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more
Yes, If fully healed: Humerus fractures may take 3 + months to heal depending on their severity and location. But when the fracture is fully healed and the elbow and shoulder joints are moving well then you should be ready to start gym again. However, you need to start slowly and build up your strength with time.
Depends on age: If an infant, fractures heal very fast. May be as soon as 2-3 weeks.
I have humerus fracture. But how can I know that fracture is healed without x ray. Will there no pain if it is healed?
Can't: Need xrays. Can be pain free with fibrous union.See 1 more doctor answer
I had a plate in my mid-shaft spiral humerus fracture placed 6 months ago. Now it has healed & giving me discomfort. I would like to remove it, please adv?
Discuss w/ surgeon: Sounds like u had a good result after a plating of your midshaft humerus fx. Discomfort or pain? Discuss w/ your surgeon options. Many surgeons prefer to keep hardware in long bone fractures for a min. Of 1 yr. Also, hardware removal from the humerus is not w/out some risks (re- fracture, infection, nerve injury). Your " discomfort " may improve over the next 6 months. Re-evaluate then. Best of luck.See 1 more doctor answer
Humerus fracture: Some variables include location of the fracture, degree of displacement (position of fragments relative to one another), host variables (illnesses that may affect healing, smoker), ? Additional injuries (leg injury that may require need for arm walk with crutches). While many fractures will heal without surgery, repair of frwcture may help with pain and more rapid return to function. Good luck!
Arm bone break: It is a fracture (bone break) of the upper arm bone. The humerus is the bone that connects to the shoulder (through part of the shoulder blade) at one end, the elbow (through the two bones of the forearm, the ulna and the radius) at the other. The humerus can be fractured anywhere along its length.See 1 more doctor answer
Bone Healing Aids: A well balanced diet is best regardless of injury. While taking a calcium supplement will not speed healing as well as a multi vitamin its part of a balanced diet. If you are taking anti inflammatory medication you should discuss the possible effects on fracture healing with your doctor. If you smoke stop while your fracture is healing. Smoking is associated with delayed fracture healing.See 1 more doctor answer
Too broad of a topic: I cannot answer this accurately. The humerus can be broken in three distinct areas, near the shoulder, the middle part of the bone, and near the elbow. Depending where the fracture is has huge impact on the options. There are non-operative and surgical options for fractures at all three locations but I cannot discuss in more detail without knowing more specifics about the fracture.
Hopefully heals: The fracture has a high rate of healing. Many humerus fractures can heal in a brace. Some require surgery - plating or having a rod placed. Ideally, the fracture will heal and you will have a complete recovery.
Excercises: Work on resistive excercises focused on strengthening your rotator cuff or muscles around your shoulder and then do triceps and biceps excercises. You can work against a rubber band as light waistbands at first. Your fracture should be healed and you should consult with your doctor and physical therapist.See 1 more doctor answer
What are exercises that will help me regain muscles lost after a humerus fracture and which muscles are affected?
Rehab: Humerus fractures can result in functional problems with all joints of the upper extremity, including the shoulder and scapula, the elbow, even the wrist, forearm, and hand. Rehab should take all of these areas into consideration. Depending on how long the arm was incapacitated, regain of full function can be lengthy. Probably best to spend some time with a or ot. Stick with it. Good luck!
25 year old had operated mid shaft humerus fracture an plate was fixed know angulation had taken after 1 month an 7 days union is there what to do.
Humoral union: It takes about 6 weeks for bones to heal. I'd wait another week, then start gradually getting your motion in your shoulder and elbow back, it'll be another 7 weeks or so before you're back to near normal.
I'm starting to move my arm after my humerus fracture fracture will a elbow support help me move my arm?
No: An elbow support will not protect the fracture You need a fracture brace that supports the humerus and let's the elbow move.
Is it broken or fractured is a question I am often asked. The answer is basically that a broken or fractured bone is the same thing. A fracture means a break in the cortex or the strong layer of outer bone cells. In an adult the average time for that to heal varies greatly but is often considered to ...Read more
