Vitamins often have dyes in them that can discolor the tissues and make it difficult to accurately assess any conditions that might be present. Do you really want to go through the prep for the test to get false or inaccurate results? Follow the doctor's orders! ...Read more

Can taking fish oil cause LDL to be elevated? I'm taking it and i've never had a high LDL before.

Yes: Fish oils contain two active omega-3 fatty acids, dha and epa. Most fish oil products are a blend of these two fatty acids. Dha + epa frequently increases LDL cholesterol in a dose dependent manner (the higher the dose, the greater the increase). Recent studies show that purified epa (without dha) decreases LDL cholesterol with significant reduction seen at a 4 gram per day dosage. ...Read more

NotFish; 2Omega3Fats: Evidence is mostly 1 (epa), possibly a 2nd (dha), omega 3 fatty acid from phytoplankton; harvested from fish (easier/?$), along with whatever else. About 1, 000 mg/day of epa tends to lower LDL particle concentrations ; in trials have ?ed death rates ~12-15%. >4, 000 mg/day of epa (less so epa+dha), tends to ? blood triglyceride fat concentrations (far more effective: stop all sugars ; most carbs). ...Read more
