Is there a sleep aid without diphenhydramine?

Melatonin

Sleep
My first suggestion is to practice good sleep hygiene -- keep your sleep structured, use bed for sleep and intimacy only, avoid lying in bed long periods, avoid day time napping. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone and over-the-counter supplement that can help improve sleep if taken at bedtime. It is not, and does not contain diphenhydramine. Give yourself 6-8 hours to sleep. Good luck!

Pain reliever PM with acetaminophen 500mg and sleep-aid diphenhydramine HCI 25mg ?

Question?

Acetaminophen
What is your question? Typically the PM pain relievers contain an antihistamine to promote sleep. But you may be groggy in the morning when you wake up. If you do not need pain relief try to avoid them, too much Tylenol can have very bad side effects. Also please take only infrequently, never on a continuous basis. If sleeping is a problem, talk to your physician.

Best sleep aid--diphenhydramine hydrochloride or doxylamine succinate?

Both commonly used

Sleep
Both of these are commonly used over-the-counter. They are sedating and help people fall and stay asleep to a greater or lesser degree depending on the person. Often tolerance develops if the person takes one or the other regularly. Melatonin is another OTC medication that can help with sleep. Be sure to practice sleep hygiene -- structuring your sleep, avoid lying long periods not sleeping, etc.

Hi, can I take a nighttime sleep aid containing diphenhydramine & a nighttime decongestant?

Probably

Sleep
If you are a healthy female and have a common cold then it should not be a problem. If you have any other systemic respiratory problems then it would be best to consult with a physician before taking the OTC meds you mentioned.

Im on drug court and i want to take a sleep aid because i cant sleep i have a generic sleep aid but it has diphenhydramine hci in it will this make me test positive for anything or will it be ok to take it

The

The answer Dr. Johnson provided is correct. There are reports that with very high doses, diphenhydramine has in rare cases, led to false positive drug screening for benzodiazapines. However, if this were to occur, normally the sample would be retested using a more precise test and that would clear up the confusion. It is reported that it could also trigger a false positive for PCP (but this is also very rare). Diphenhydramine is not a good choice for chronic problems with sleep. If you are in a program that requires drug testing, you might consider skipping the diphenhydramine and working on sleep hygiene first.

can you take a night time sleep-aid diphenhydramine with 24 hour Zyrtec equivalent in your system?

Yes, but caution

Benadryl
Zyrtec is a minimal sedating antihistamine while diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is a first generation antihistamine with significant drowsy side effects. There may be carry over effect from diphenhydramine. Avoid drinking alcohol. Consider another sleep aid if this is a persistent problem.

Dr. Oz, I can't sleep, so I'm taking an over the counter sleep aid called Diphenhydramine 50mg & red wine, will this kill me? I have not been able to sleep for 2 years now because of my Disability. I have Arthritis, Anxiety and a problem with my wrist. Th

Hi,

Hi, This isn't Dr. Oz. You don't note how much red wine. A moderate amount of red wine and 50mg of diphehydramine should not kill you. However, this is not a good cocktail for sleep. Over the counter sleep aids that contain antihistamines can eventually lead to rebound insomnia. Alcohol is the number one cause for insomnia in this country. Over time, it can cause problems with sleep. Try going to bed at the same time each night. Use the bedroom only for sex or sleep (no tv, radio or other distractions). It is best to have a very quiet and dark bedroom. Avoid caffeine in the evening. Avoid large evening meals or late dinners. Limit exercise to late afternoon or earlier. Avoid napping. Limit alcohol use (or don't drink). Try to encorporate a calming routine at night (like taking a warm bath with lavender). Consider drinking warm milk or camomile tea at bedtime. Melatonin can be very helpful for sleep. Medical acupuncture can be used in the treatmet of arthritis, anxiety and pain. It is effective, safe and there are no medication interactions. It is not covered by all insurance plans however. Take care.

I'm interested to know what happens if I take 6 diphenhydramine hci 25mg sleeping pills?

Very sleepy

Benadryl
That would be a high dose of antihistamine there. You would probably get very sleepy although you might turn delirious! I wonder why you are interested in the specific effects of taking so many pills? I would talk with someone a out what you are going through like a primary care doctor or even a psychiatrist. Stay safe!
