Dx with cellulities in shin. prescription bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds and keflex. Am elevating leg. Now leg is turning from warm and very bright-reddish to brownish/blackish?
Depends: This truly depends on exactly what it looks like. When cellulitis "burns out" with treatment, there is sometimes a brownish discoloration left behind. However, brown/black always raises the concern of necrosis/gangrene, so if there are worsening symptoms such as pain or swelling, i would immediately go to the er. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Will omnicef work on kidney infection? Was switched to omnicef from bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds because of rash and shaking.

If you had a positive urine culture that was tested and found susceptible to cefdinir (Omnicef®), it will work well. If such testing wasn't done, you'll have to wait and see how it works. Discuss with the doc who prescribed it. Good luck! ...Read more

Peripheral edema: You would know if you are urinating more than usual; then likely this medication/dose is working and you will have to watch along with decreased intake of salt and free water in your diet. If not, may be the medication is not working or you need higher dose. If you have leg swelling from non-water related issues like lymphedema, clot or amlodipine, HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) may not work. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
