Dim Plus Hypothyroid Soy Based
I have all symptoms of hypothyroidism, but blood tests are normal. plus a swollen thyroid left side. What can cause this? Hair is really falling out.
Other possibilities.: The Thyroid is not the only endocrine gland that affects metabolism, mood, menstrual cycles and hair follicle activity in women your age. It's quite possible that you are experiencing peri-menopause, or that you have Vitamin D deficiency. Has the enlargement of the thyroid gland been confirmed/examined with ultrasound? If not it should be. Your other hormones and a D level should be checked also.See 1 more doctor answer
Should be fine: I am not aware of any evidence that soy products will cause thyroid problems or interfere with treatment. It remains the standard recommendation that thyroid hormone supplementation be taken on an empty stomach.
Makes no difference: The only thing that makes a difference is getting treated with the correct amount of brand name T4 to keep your levels normal.
I take Synthroid (thyroxine) every morning for hypothyroidism. I normally have a soy protein drink every morning. Can the soy interfere with my synthroid (thyroxine)?
Yes it may interfere: Almost everything interferes with absorption of thyroid. If you have been drinking the soy drink with the thyroid, but your doctor thinks the levels look good then don't change what you are doing. However, if you are just beginning synthroid (thyroxine) therapy, wait about 1&1/2 hours after taking the synthroid (thyroxine) before drinking the soy drink.
Hi I have hypothyroidism and i do understand that slimfast has soy in it. Is it safe to drink ? I believe soy affects the thyroid gland. I am also on levothyroxine as a thyroid replacement and i take it every day.
How can I fix my anemia and hypothyroidism? Doctor said I can't have red meat soy or eggs because of thyroid but I need something to keep iron up
Get another doctor: You need to get with a different physician at least for a second opinion. You either misunderstood or were misinformed, and this is extremely serious business. Diet isn't a factor in hypothyroidism. Anemia needs a proper workup unless it's clearly iron deficiency from monthly loss. If not properly managed, either will cost you your health and perhaps your life.See 1 more doctor answer
Elemental formula: There are multiple brand of formula available that are either hydrolyzed or if the allergy is true ige mediated then there are 2 formula products available that are pure Amino Acid formulas (neocate and elecare) without any of the milk or soy protiens.
Processed soy: There is good evidence that fermented organic soy is part of a healthy lifestyle for men & women -think miso, tempah, etc... However, the highly processed soy found in textured vegetable protein and soy milk is not healthy. Most commercial non-organic soy is processed using highly toxic hexane. I recmmend avoiding all non-organic processed soy.See 2 more doctor answers
Soy and thyroid: If you have thyroid tissue, and require levothyroxine because your existing thyroid is underactive, then soy intake as a regular food can make your thyroid tissue less active; it inhibits iodine metabolism; if you had your thyroid removed surgically, then soy will not interfere with levothyroxine.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Soy-based formula is safe and fine to use, but babies usually start on cow milk formula. The nutritional value of formulas in america are standardized, so they have similar amounts of calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat. There are, however, different sources for the ingredients. Some formulas use cow milk protein, while others use soy protein. The sugar in the formula may be different too.See 2 more doctor answers
Finding out: information on this. Uncooked corn-starch (UCCS) has been the mainstay of therapy for the hepatic glycogen storage diseases. Youd want to start formula with what a pediatric endocrinologist suggests is the best. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/112568 but the reports Ive seen say you also need supplemental glucose carefully formulated into the soy milk
Soy formula: Let's start by saying breast is always best. But if this is absolutely not an option and formula a must, soy is perfectly adequate for nutrition. Many babies have difficulty handling cow's milk proteins or the lactose present in cow's milk. Soy is both lactose free and cow milk protein free. All formulas are supplemented equally with regard to vitamins and minerals. Brand does NOT MATTER.
My baby is 12 month the doktor tell me take soy-based formul isomil milk is isomill use for along time bad or not?
Depends on situation: Some folks prefer the bovine protein as more human like & there is some question whether the soy lives up to its quality. That said, most kids would never have any appreciable difference in growth/development either way.The exception comes if a kid is intolerant to one. If so, the other product or a specialty formula like alumentum would be less likely to cause GI symptoms.
Elemental formulas: For those who become intolerant to bovine and soy protein, there are elemental formulas that contain predigested proteins that work. You can find one (alumentum, alumentum ready to feed, nutramagen, elecare). All are expensive but after 4-6 weekss on one, the gut may heal enough to tolerate other foods. Work with your ped to find one that works for your kid.All are difficult.
