I was given Morphine, IV it caused respitory arrest. I have taken Hydrocodone, Demerol, (meperidine hydrochloride) & Percocet,&was fine Can I take Codeine a morphine derivative?
Morphine: There is a greater risk when you take or get any medication IV. You had it. The Hydrocodone and the Percocet are oral and at much lower doses. Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) is not recommended oral and is usually used IV. While there is a risk it is small, it does increase if you use alcohol or other sedatives. ...Read more
Ask the doctor: Ask the doctor who gave the prescription. The 500 is the amount of tylenol (acetaminophen) in the tablet. The total daily dose should not be more than 3000mg or 6 tablets. Safe to take tylenol (acetaminophen) for headache? Taking lantus, celexa 20mg and Lorazapam .25 2-3x prn (tapering)
If a doctor has: prescribed you both drugs, I am not sure why you are not asking the prescribing physician and/or the pharmacist who is dispensing the drug. If 2 doctors are prescribing, and one doesn't know about the other, that is a problem. If neither is prescribed, YOU SHOULD NOT be taking these meds. In general, ER drugs result in a steady state of opiate, and Xanax (alprazolam) 0.5 mg could be taken at any time with it. ...Read more

See Previous Answer: You basically have three options: resume opiates and taper gradually to minimize withdrawal. Use subutex (buprenorphine) as a replacement opiate which has less withdrawal issues. Use meds which block withdrawal symptoms like clonidine. The problem with the last option is that it can drastidcally lower your BP which might make your dialysis management difficult. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is the equianalgesic dose when comparing 50mg tramadol to Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride)?
What about 30mg codiene to Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride)?
50mg tramadol to Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride)?: Meperidine (Demerol) 50 mg was superior to tramadol 50 mg for acute pain relief in patients with suspected renal colic when given intravenously. Because many patients in both groups received supplemental meperidine and the response to tramadol alone cannot be predicted, clinicians may want to choose higher doses of meperidine alone or other alternative combinations. ...Read more
MS and methadone: I disagree. Both are potent narcotics that can activate the disease of addiction in susceptible patients. The physical withdrawal from Methadone is more prolonged than the withdrawal from morphone but they both can activate addiction. Methadone is used in substitution therapy for other opiate addictions because it gets across the blood-brain barrier more slowly and causes less euphoria & sedation. ...Read more

Can you take 75 mg diphenhydramine HCl (tylenol (acetaminophen) simply sleep) with .5 mg diazepam (valium)?
Probably: I think you mean 5 mg of diazepam, not .5. 75 mg of diphenydramine is a bit high. Tegether, they synergize for additional sedation. Alone, it is probably not enough to be a problem, but if combined with other sedating agents or alcohol, you would be taking a risk, possibly a serious one. ...Read more
