In : In general, for uncomplicated surgeries, it is recommended to wait 6-8 weeks prior to lifting anything heavier that a gallon of milk. This is because the tensile strength of a wound is relatively stable at this point. After this, a slow return to normal pre-surgery activity should ensue. ...Read more

Removal Of Appendix (Definition)

An appendectomy is surgery to remove the appendix. The appendix is a small, finger-shaped organ extending from the first part of the large intestine. It is removed when it becomes inflamed or infected. A perforated appendix can leak and infect the entire abdominal area, which can be life-threatening. An appendectomy is done under general anesthesia, which means you are asleep and do not feel any pain during the surgery. The surgeon makes a small cut in the lower right side of your belly area ...Read more

Ever since having my gallbladder out, i've been having stomach/digestive problems and mild pain on the right side. Could there be a post-surgery probl?

Possibly: Similar pain after gallbladder surgery may be related to the gallbladder. It really depends how long after surgery it is occurring. If it's within a week, it is probably just post-surgical pain. If it is longer, than stones may be present in the main duct and cause symptoms. You need to speak to your surgeon. ...Read more

I just had an appendectomy this week . By the time i got into surgery it was ruptured . My abdomen is very swolen. How long until back to normal?

Hopefully, ~2 weeks: With ruptured appendicitis, infection has spread from your appendix to the surrounding area if not throughout your belly. You have an ileus, or sluggish bowel function, for a couple to several days. You need to be on broad-spectrum antibiotics for several days. The chances of complication (e.g., abscess, bowel obstruction) are significant. Best case scenario -- back to normal in a couple of weeks. ...Read more
