Can autoantibodies against glutamine synthetase and/or glutamate dehydrogenase cause glutamate metabolism disorders?
Still searching: Glutamine synthase is part of the glutamine synthetase family. Ammonia incorporation in animals occurs through the actions of glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthase. Glutamate plays the central role in mammalian nitrogen flow, serving as both a nitrogen donor and nitrogen acceptor. I am unble to find references in my search so far as to autoantibodies to these but see comment. ...Read more
Bloodwork done to determine cause of iron deficiency anemia, Lactate dehydrogenase level was 122 (ref 140-271). What causes low LDH?
Not abnormal: Even though lower than the lower end of the reference range, your LDH levels in not abnormal. Muscles are a contributor to LDH and women in general have a lower muscle mass. Do not be concerned about it. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more
Can taking bovine colostrum increase plasma immunoglobulin levels, thereby masking an underlying immunoglobulin deficiency by altering blood tests?
Unlikely: Very thoughtful idea. Unfortunately, the bovine immunoglobins are too large to be absorbed from the intestine and would be digested by stomach and intestinal juices and enzymes. With use you would be providing body with raw materials for making your own immunoglobulins, but at a cost. Any "complete" proteins from eggs or milk could provide the same protein precursors and support good health. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Serum b12> 1999 mma 0.4, homocysteine high 19. No folate (folic acid) or iron deficiency normocytic anemia not responding to procrit. Is this an absorption issue?
Anemia: can be caused by blood loss or bone marrow suppression as well. More information is needed ( how long have you had a normal iron, folate (folic acid) and b12 level. What is your reticulocyte count ? ( is your bone marrow producing new RBC's) ? How low is your HCT and has it come up or gone down with B12. Is the RDW elevated ( do you put out large and small RBC's at the same time? Any blood loss ? ...Read more
What would cause an intolerance to glutamic acid? Gad autoantibodies? Gad deficiency? Glutamate receptor autoantibodies(anti-nmda, anti-ampa)?
None of the above.: Msg - ubiquitous Amino Acid and major excitatory neurotransmitter in brain. Studied extensively. Does not cause allergy or intolerance except at high dose and only then in susceptible persons when given in large doses without food. See fda, j. Nutrition, food chem and toxicology, etc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is there a blood test for glutamine synthetase or glutamate dehydrogenase? Would the tests help diagnose glutamate &/or nitrogen metabolism disorder?
Does taking OTC digestive enzymes with amylase and amyloglucosidase helps with fructose intolerance?
Elevated vasoactive intestinal peptides chromogranin & 5-hiaa. Could these tests be linked? Or is one incorrect. Hypokalemia and dehydration.
Have sudden increased hair loss. Blood test show vitamin D deficiency, triglycerides 548, positive autoimmune test. What autoimmune disease is likely?

Amylase & lipase: These check for the enzymes to see if they're being released into the blood when somebody has an upper abdominal emergency. If you're concerned you haven't got enough pancreatic enzymes, a stool assay for pancreatic elastase might be more helpful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
42yo male, blood test ->higher than normal estradiol levels & GI stool test ->high beta-glucaronidase - what's this mean? Take calcium D glucarate?
Get a consult: Most of this stuff about beta-glucuronidase in the stool comes from "independent medical thinkers" focused on gut flora and isn't mainstream. The scientific papers I've seen come from obscure institutions. And why are you having your estradiol checked? Reference ranges on labs are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. I'd get a second, mainstream opinion. ...Read more
Can high gad-65 autoantibodies cause glutamate metabolism disorder (gmd)? What tests confirm gmd? My plasma ammonia is normal & anti-gad ab's high
Can cause diabetes.: It seems these autoabs can cause stiff man's syndrome, a neurological disorder with impaired motor function and muscle stiffness and spasm. There is also a great deal of glutamic acid decarboxylase in the pancreas and so these antibodies act here and produce diabetes mellitus in the patient. This is likely the metabolic disorder involved. So titers of this ab, glucose, and neural tests help. ...Read more

What causes irregular menstrual cycles, vitamin D deficiency, peripheral neuropathy, gluten intolerance, high cholesterol, fatigue, low BBT?
Menses: There are many causes of irregular menses and you should see a Gynecologist about this. Vitamin D deficiency is unnecessary. Over the counter bottles with 1000 mg daily should be enough. Gluten intolerance is telling you to slow down taking any gluten. High cholesterol can be treated and your doctor will assist you. Fatigue - why? ...Read more
Which digestive enzyme brand is better for acid reflux issue and digestive problems: swiss natural or jamieson ?
Neither: Gerd or acid reflux disease results in irritation of the lower aspect of the esophagus resulting in changes in the lining (barrett's), some having scarring and difficulty swallowing, lung problems, and abdominal pain. Digestion should not be affected, and there should be no reason to take any enzymes unless you have other problems such as with your pancreas. ...Read more
