Need some evaluation: It's unusual to have ongoing symptoms this long after appendectomy, if it was uncomplicated. If it was complicated by perforation or abscess, it may take some time to get back to baseline. However, you should see your primary doc for further evaluation to be sure nothing else is going on. Are heartburn syrups harmful if you take them too much, and what should I do if I get frequent digestion problems?
Heartburn: If you are having this frequently you should be evaluated by a GI doctor to be sure that you do not have gastroesophageal acid reflux with or without a hiatus hernia, and if excess acid whether you may be infected with helicobacter pylori. Don't stop cold: But you can stop. Talk with the prescribing doctor if possible for guidance. Or, cut it by half for a week, then skip days or just go off it. GERD symptoms.: PPI medications don't stop the reflux, but they do help symptoms, to which you have alluded. Heartburn. Chronic cough. GERD can even mimic sinusitis and allergies. Possibilities: With the symptoms you've described, appendicitis is unlikely. More likely are a hiatal hernia or an ulcer. Avoid alcohol, spicy foods, and stay upgright (don't lay flat) 2 hours after eating. You can also try some over the counter antacids.
