Difficulty walking is a broad term that encompasses multiple medical conditions. One type of difficulty walking is called claudication. In claudication, a person can begin having severe pain or tightness or cramping that can make it difficult to walk. Claudication can have a vascular or neurological cause or both. Depends: Brain ages along with bones and every other organ as we age. Blood flow changes and organs don't work as well. This will vary in severity speed and age from person to person. Normal pressure hydr: I agree w/Dr. Ihle that spinal stenosis & upper motor neuron disease are high on list making it difficult to walk & balance. Peripheral neuropathy in someone w/long-standing poorly controlled diabetes could do this. Vitamin B12 deficiency too perhaps. If concomitant incontinence & memory loss, then I'd worry about normal pressure hydrocephalus which is build up of fluid & pressure in brain. Stroke ...Read more
