Difficulty Reaching Overhead (Overview)

One of the primary motions required to "reach overhead" is the ability to abduct your shoulder. In shoulder abduction, the arm is moved away from the body allowing one to do overhead activities. Two of the more common conditions that can lead to difficulty abducting the shoulder are a frozen shoulder and a rotator cuff tear. In both conditions, patients can have difficulty in overhead activity.

Difficulty standing up from a squatting position? Age or deconditioning?

Both: Unfortunately, one of earliest muscle groups to lose control of is the quads and hip flexors. These are the muscles needed to stand from a squatting condition.
