Consider this...: Aerophagia (swallowed air) distends stomach & may result in burping. I had nissen fundoplication surgery when I was a 6 lb preemie and now have difficulty burping. I heard that the nissen may stretch as I grow. I'm 11 l
See a GI Surgeon: Absolutely, that can happen within a limited timeframe after the original surgery, however, depending on the way the fundoplication was done, you may have lost the ability to burp due to the completeness of the surgical wrap around the base of the esophagus. It takes another surgery to 'relax' the wrap to allow gas to come up, or burp, if that is the issue. ...Read more

Gerd? Sleep apnea?: The fact that your shortness of breath does not get worse with walking or exercise would go against an ischemic or lack of blood flow scenario for which stress echo is necessary. In addition a regular echo might not be the next dx choice either. If this happens more during night I would consider possible gerd, aka reflux, and trying sleeping with 2 oil lows or take an anti acid Li protonix (pantoprazole) befor ...Read more

Hope you are well! ...Read more
When I finish eat anything I want to burp but I cant. Insteated I pass gas.....What is the problem?
Not burping: This sounds like a mechanical problem. When you swallow air or gas, or your body produces air or gas from digestion (as with high fiber diets), there are only 2 ways to come out--the mouth or the anus. There is a sphincter muscle between the stomach and esophagus which, if tight, can reduce the ability to burp. In such a case, the gas has no choice but to move down the intestine as a fart. ...Read more
