Different Color Poop Meanings
Is it normal for the consistency of your poop to be different everyday? Can it be different depending on things you ate?
Change in stools: Yes, it is normal for your stools (medical word for poop) to change depending on what you eat. You'll find it gets softer with more fiber in the diet (fruits/veggies), and firmer with more animal products (meats/cheese). The color can change a little too. Black, tarry stools are a worry, as that represents digested blood from the small intestines. Bright red blood is ongoing bleeding needing eval. ...Read more

Poop often normal consistency for a few days, then mushy-watery for a few days. Normal schedule though. Is this common if u eat different everyday?
Many possibilities: Bowel pattern can vary quite a lot, so this may be normal for you. If you have any degree of abdominal pain a pattern that waxes and wanes may suggest irritable bowel syndrome. As long as you are not having any bloody stools, fevers or weight loss it is not likely anything serious, but a visit to your doctor should help better identify the cause and appropriate treatment, if any. ...Read more

Doubt can treat: the day that we can figure out how to control or conquer pain with "mind over matter" and teach everyone how to do it will be the day we conquer disease and live forever. Relaxation techniques, yoga doesn't hurt. Hard to teach though. Specially in writing like this. Would be awesome if we had experts readily available everywhere to teach this. This is something you would have to find yoursefl ...Read more
My 3 mo. Old has had yellow brown stools about 4-5times a day for the last 3-4 days different from his 1x to evey other day green poop. Is this normal?
Stools are OK: This can be normal. If you have changed what he/she is eating, then you will see a change in the frequency and color of the stool. If the baby is acting well, i wouldn't necessarily do anything different. If the baby is acting ill, then the increased frequency may be a symptom of the illness. The color isn't significant. If the baby is acting ill, and not eating well, he needs to see his doc. ...Read more

Why did my 3 1/2 mo old breast fed babies poop smell different (almost a medicinal smell!) when on erythromycin eye ointment for eye infection?
Hard to say: This could be a situation where antibiotic somehow got on the baby's hand and made its way into the GI tract, OR, possibly something you are eating in your diet could be affecting the poop. The only thing that will prove what caused this is whether the funny poop smell is gone after the eye treatment is stopped for a week or so... ...Read more

Why would my husbande stool be blue? He hasn't eaten or drank anything different. He is very worried.
Blue stool?: That's a new one for me. Just to be on the safe side, have him see his family doctor & check for blood in the stool. If he's bleeding from high up, say stomach or duodenum, blood can get digested along the way and make stool darker than usual, even black. So best to get checked out to be on safe side, unless one of my colleagues has a better answer . . ...Read more
