Difference Omega 3 6 9
What's a difference between fish oil capsules and omega 3-6-9 capsules? Which ones should I take as a diabetic?
None: Krill oil and fish oil are the new snake oil, both are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are extremely fragile. Omega 3 fish oils reduce triglycerides by impairing the liver's ablility to make them. However the oxidative stress caused by fish oil actually raises LDL cholesterol. Some day we may use the phrase "this is just more fish /krill oil" or "here comes the fish/krill oil salesman". ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
The structure: The difference is where the unsaturated chemical bond is in the "tail" of the fatty acid -- 3 positions away from the end (that's where OMEGA comes from -- last letter in the greek alphabet) or 6 positions away. The reason this matters is that biochemically, omega-3 fatty acids get turned into anti-inflammatory signaling compounds, while omega-6 fatty acids may get turned into proinflammatory ones ...Read more
I cannot understand the difference between omega 3 and 6. I take both 3 and 6 in equal amount supplements and it makes my skin brilliant. ?
Both essential yet..: Both omega 3 & 6 fatty acids are essential for health. One does not substitute for the other but many foods contain both. Deficiencies can cause not only dry skin but depression, joint pains, menstrual cramps, poor immune function etc. Deficiency of Omega 3's is more common. Different supplement: Omega 3 fatty acids are a type of "good" fat that is found in fatty fish e.g., salmon, etc. Coenzyme q10 is a supplement that is thought to help with muscle pain and/or weakness, especially in people on statin drugs like lipitor, (atorvastatin) zocor, etc. Since those drugs block the coq10 pathway and sometimes have muscle pains as a side effect. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can any doc tell me what's the difference between omega 3 capsules and hydrochloric acid capsules?
Different fats: The fatty acid most commonly found in flax-seed oil is ?-linolenic acid (ala, 18 carbons and 3 double bonds). In fish oil, they are eicosapentaenoic acid (epa, 20 carbons and 5 double bonds), docosahexaenoic acid (dha, 22 carbons and 6 double bonds). Ala converts to epa and dha, but in limited amounts. Best to get your epa and dha from actual wild salmon and your ala from flax. ...Read more

Doc wants me to take three 300mg of krill oil daily after my omega 3 test came back. I had been taking 1 krill plus a fish oil daily. Is this unusual?
EPA ; DHA: Fish oil and krill oil have 2 major components: epa and dha. Generally people need at least 1-2 grams of epa, and at least 500 mg dha daily. The preparations you were using may not have delivered this much of each component in the capsules you were taking, so you needed more. Please know that if you eat wild alaskan salmon, sardines, etc at least twice each week, you may not need supplements. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hello, I have Nutrilite heart health omega-3 supplement, but It says to take 3 softgels per day before meals. Can I take all three softgels at once?
You Like Fish Burps?: Better to split them up. Better absorbed with food. If you don't eat three meals a day then take two with one meal and one with another. but in this case food will help. Or, take the third with a healthy snack. Taking all three at once won't hurt but you want to get your money's worth, right? Also, if you eat some salmon that day, you can skip the supplement. The "real" thing is always better ...Read more
