I got pneumonia and doctor prescribed me robitussin ac but not working much. Is it ok if I switched to Robitussin Dm (guaifenesin and dextromethorphan). What is the difference in dm n a?
DM has: dextromethorphan which is a cough suppressant. AC just means there is codeine included, a narcotic suppressant. Pneumonia needs to be treated with antibiotics and expectorant, along with anti-inflammatory medicines. You can take the DM but it is unlikely to be more effective than with codeine. Not that I know of: There is a reason people say something tastes like cough medicine.....The ingredients and many have an alcohol base that just makes them taste yucky. I would look for it as a pill or look to other possibilities. Honey and lemon are known to be excellent for coughs. Warm drinks help him phlegm. Elderberry is excellent for coughs. 2 Cough supressants: You are intending to take Robitussin DM, a medicine that has a cough suppressant and expectorant, with benzonatate, tessalon, which is also a cough suppressant. Instead, take the robitussin DM because it has the expectorant with it as well.
