What's the difference between ringworm and impetigo?

What's the difference between ringworm and impetigo?

HUGE: Ringworm is a skin infection spread from a person or a cat. The source is usually a kitten. Typically it is scaley with a clearing in the center, slightly itchy, and slowly spreading. Impetigo spreads rapidly, usually the lower face, with honey-colored crusts and maybe blisters. The skin is puffy & sore. Impetigo is transmitted from another person, an infection by strep or staph bacteria.

Been diagnosed with impetigo but looks like ringworm, what to do?

Follow instructions: Rashes and other skin lesions are sometimes difficult to definitively diagnose because many of the features of different conditions can overlap. It's best to follow the instructions of the prescribing physician, who is highly trained and experienced. If your rash is not improving after a good faith effort of treatment, other diagnosis should be considered.

What to do if I've been diagnosed with impetigo but looks like ringworm?

What to do if I've been diagnosed with impetigo but looks like ringworm?

Impetigo: If you've been given medicine for impetigo, and it's ringworm, the medicine won't work. Impetigo is a bacterial infection, ringworm is a fungal infection. If there is no improvement in a couple of days; have it rechecked.

I was diagnosed with impetigo, but it looks like ringworm - what's going on?

I was diagnosed with impetigo, but it looks like ringworm - what's going on?

Please confirm: These are two very different diagnosis. Impetigo is bacterial and treated with topical &/or oral antibiotics. Ringworm or Tinea is fungal skin infection and is treated with topical antifungal creams and steroids. Impetigo is crusty and pus like in nature http://www. Mayoclinic. My pediatrician diagnosed impetigo but now looks like ringworm after being on antibiotics for a week. What should I do?

My pediatrician diagnosed impetigo but now looks like ringworm after being on antibiotics for a week. What should I do?

Recheck: Impetigo is a bacterial infection treated with antibiotics, while ringworm is a fungal skin infection which would not improve with antibiotics. If the eruption has not resolved with antibiotics, see your pediatrician so a skin culture for fungus can be done. Regardless, avoid putting Hydrocortisone or other topical steroid on it until the true diagnosis is known.

I've had impetigo for 2 weeks now, & the cream and antibiotics that the doctor gave me was healing it. But now it's on my side & looks like ringworm?

It may well be: It may have been ringworm all along the impetiginized, or you may have a second eruption. You can try over-the-counter ringworm Rx and/or get seen again

Diagnosed w/ impetigo. Still breaking out even w/ trtmnt. Doc is stumped. Could it b something else? 1 other prsn n home has this, just not. As badly

Possibly: Impetigo is usually treated with an oral antibiotic (cephalexin or augmentin) plus a topical antibiotic (bactroban (mupirocin) or neosporin). With appropriate treatment should resolve. It is contagious so I would advise the other famfamily member be treated as well. You may need dermatology input if rash continues.

How long doesit take to treat impetigo?

How long doesit take to treat impetigo?

Usually not long: Impetigo is a superficial skin infection. If only a small area is involved, topical antibiotic cream or ointment usually works. Larger areas may need an oral antibiotic, often for 7 to 10 days. Impetigo can be contagious, so it is wise to keep the area covered if possible and wash hands well after touching the lesions.
