Difference Between Propranolol And Atenolol For Anxiety
Can I take atenolol (tenormin) and propranolol (inderal) in small doses like 25mg Tenormin and 40 inderal? Its for anxiety
Does not make sense: Both of these drugs belong to the same class of agents and have the same effects. Therefore, it does not make sense to take both of them. It would be better to take only one of them in a higher dose. ...Read more
Atenolol is a relatively long-acting (24 hours) beta-blocker. Beta-blockers as a group of medications calm or slow the heart rate down. They stop the swings in hr from stress or nerves. If someone is on a good dose of a beta-blocker and are startled, the medication suppresses the pounding of your heart. It also won't allow the hr to climb with exercise. It's used to ...Read more
What beta blocker should I take for the physical symtoms of anxiety? Propranolol or atenolol? I'm taking ativan (lorazepam) but want to add a bb for physical symptom
What's the diference between atenolol and propanolol? What is better for the physical symtoms of anxiety? Its true that atenolol work only on the heart?
Similar to a point: Both are in the same class of heart meds (beta-blockers). It is true, though, that atenolol works more just on the heart, because it crosses into the brain much less than propranolol. This is what makes Propranolol much more effective for other things, like migraines, anxiety, etc., where the drug has to cross into the brain in order to work for these things. For anxiety, I would use propranolol. ...Read more
I'm on propranolol 10 mg 3 times daily for propranolol. What dose of Atenolol would be equal to the propranolol dose? Doc wants me to switch
Why did propranolol give me a bad cough a hard time breathing? Atenolol does not give me these symptoms why did the 2 have different reactions
Treatment suggestions for very symptomatic Inappropriate Sinus Tach? No success at 25-50mg: diltiazem (calcium chan. Blocker), atenolol + propranolol.
Try Nadolol: An older, generic (cheap) treatment option that is often very successful in IAST is Nadolol, a non-selective, longer acting B-blocker that allows you to take it once daily. Since nadolol is an older generic, many physicians are not familiar with its use. Atenolol and propranolol are shorter acting B-blockers and rarely work for IAST. Diltiazem and other calcium channel blockers almost never work. ...Read more
Inderal (propranolol) could be contributing to confusion in my 88 yr old mother. Is there a water-based beta blocker less apt to do so? Not metoprolol or atenolol..
Atenolol: Atenolol is the most hydrophilic (least lipophilic) of the betablockers, crossing the blood brain barrier less than any other. If your grandmother can't tolerate atenolol, then she can't be on any beta blocker at all. Here is one of many articles on the subject: http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/pubmed/2865153. ...Read more
Inderal (propranolol) vs tenormin? Inderal (propranolol) fills receptors on heart and lungs. I want to know if filling lungs receptors helps reduce stage fright symptoms. Thanks.
What is the difference between carvedilol and propranolol? Why is propranolol much use for panic or anxiety attack? Thank you.
Blockers have different effects on the RECEPTORS (beta and alpha) that they act upon. There is a lot more DATA and EXPERIMENTAL studies with the use of PROPRANALOL ("Inderal") (One of the "first" beta blockers ever used) and its effect upon anxiety (eg "stage fright")
Hope this is helpful

What is difference between short acting and long acting propranolol? Doc gave me short acting for anxiety, will it still lower blood pressure?
The short: Acting is required to be taking more than once a day because of its elimination time. The long acting is released slowly hence last longer in your blood and requires single dosing. Both will lower your BP and heart rate ...Read more
I take metoprolol 25 MG for anxiety. Dr. says propranolol may be more affective. What is the difference?
Propranolol: The effectiveness of a beta blocking drug for helping anxiety is related to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier which, in turn, is related to it's lipophilic vs hydrophilic properties. Both drugs cross, but propranolol does it better, so may be more effective in some people. ...Read more
Consult your doc: Atenolol is a 'cardioselective' beta-blocker. In layman's terms, it blocks the effects of adrenaline on the heart, and blunts the 'fight or flight' syndrome that anxiety-sufferers often needlessly find themselves in. This bodily response to anxiety (rapid heart rate, sweating) can further promote anxiety, a self-perpeuating cycle. Too high a dose can dangerously lower hr & bp, so consult your doc! ...Read more
Be careful!: Tenormin (atenolol) is a beta blocker. It blunts the effect of Adrenalin (epinephrine) on the body systems such as heart rate, pounding in the chest, shaking, tremors and the like. These drugs should be carefully prescribed and carefully taken, especially depending on age, medical condition and response. The doctor should directed dosing. The maximum dose recommended is 100 mg. Let md do this! ...Read more

Talk to your doctor.: If you are having problems with your medication get in contact with your doctor so he/she can start you in another medication. Therapy?: Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy?
