Diet Restrictions Before Colonoscopy
Depends on findings:
In general, after a normal colonoscopy, patients can resume their regular diet without restriction.
The medication that are commonly given can have lingering effects of nausea in some, so I do suggest avoiding rich or fatty foods for the first meal.
Most importantly, when large polyps are removed or other special procedures are performed, we may ask you to remain on a clear diet for 12-24 hours. ...Read more

I am getting a colonoscopy on Friday so I am supposed to be on a low roughage diet. I know I can't have nuts but can I have reese cups?
Define clear liquids: "clear liquids" are any food that is not solid at room ; body temperature that will allow sunlight to pass through: ice pops, jello, broth without particles, juices without particulates, water, light tea. Avoid red-dyed foods that may leave residue that looks like blood to the colonoscopist. Confirm your selection with the performing doctor--you don't want to have to re-do the test due 2 bad prep. ...Read more

Can I have Werther's Original Caramel Hard Candies the day before my colonoscopy? I am on a clear liquid diet.
Yes: The hard candies will dissolve into soft or liquid form before they reach your bowel. While they are not quite clear, they are close enough. And the volume they would produce would be very small. I probably would not do more than 5 or 6 of them, though; maybe 10 at the most. None on day of procedure. Clearer/lighter hard candy would be better. Keep up the water!! Good luck! ...Read more

Worry is relative!: If they never told you, you need to be aware of a fact. Every time someone with celiac disease consumes gluten, their immune system creates new antibodies that attack various tissues in the body. Your symptoms may be readily apparent or subtle, but they will eventually lead to more problems. It is hard enough to remain gluten free when you try, since it can be found in unexpected items. ...Read more
I have been on clear liquid diet all day and started colonoscopy prep 4.5 hours ago. I have drank 2 liters of movi-prep without a BM. What should I do?
Continue prep: Continue the prep as prescribed. If you have not had good BMs prior to time for the procedure, let the doctor who is going to do the procedure know. If your colon is not cleared out, the doctor will not be able to see well enough for the colonoscopy to be of any value. You may need to be prescribed a different bowel prep. ...Read more

Recent colonoscopy revealed - patch mucosal congestion. Any medicine/diet advise please? Symptoms are intermittent tightness ascending colon.
I would think the: Description "patch mucosal congestion" would be an incidental, benign finding. It suggests a little swelling and perhaps prominent blood vessel in a small portion of the colon lining. This would not cause any symptoms, certainly not "tightness" in the colon (which I don't think you can feel). General colon cancer prevention is avoiding red/processed meats, refined grains/sugars, adding fiber. ...Read more
