RLQ pain: When an abscess forms after an appendectomy it usually causes continued pain in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. The pain can be in the midline or even a bit to the left depending on the abscess location. There is usually tenderness to palpation, fever and an elevated WBC count. A ct scan of the abdomen and pelvis is the best diagnostic test.
An appendectomy is surgery to remove the appendix. The appendix is a small, finger-shaped organ extending from the first part of the large intestine. It is removed when it becomes inflamed or infected. A perforated appendix can leak and infect the entire abdominal area, which can be life-threatening. An appendectomy is done under general anesthesia, which means you are asleep and do not feel any pain during the surgery. The surgeon makes a small cut in the lower right side of your belly area ...Read more

In a post appendectomy or exlap patient, when should the wound be cleaned and dressing changed? How often?
Daily but steri stay: Most patients are discharged with a dressing that can be removed. Daily dressing changes allow the incision to be inspected. If you had exploratory laparotomy you may have steri strips or staples. They stay until you see your surgeon. The instructions should be on discharge summary. Including shower instructions. Your surgeon will review findings and look at wound in follow up.See 1 more doctor answer
See your surgeon!: If you have an abscess, it must be drained. If it has been drained, and you are having pain from the drain, that will improve as the abscess resolves. I am assuming if you know you have an abscess, someone is treating it. Abscesses (an infected fluid collection) are painful, but that usually improves with drainage and antibiotics.
New abscess or adhes: The inflammatory process of the disease, and the surgery can kink up the bowels and cause blockage. It needs to be seen by the surgeon who operated. As soon as possible.See 1 more doctor answer

After a laparscopic appendectomy what are if any limitations in diets, activity, and health care. Such as cleaning wounds and dressing them?
Ok to ask surgeon: Your surgeon and facility typically give verbal and written instructions on what to expect after surgery. Ok to call and ask, make your post op appointment at the same time. Typically diet limited until bowels are moving, and avoiding heavy lifting for two weeks is the answer.See 1 more doctor answer

Post Op Complication: You are having a post operative complication. It is inappropriate to be seeking care for the complication from any physician other than the surgeon. Surgeon's must be informed of complications so that they can correct the problem before complications worsen. Please contact your surgeon. You were given written and verbal instructions to take home after surgery on how to do this.
Had an appendectomy, but am currently experiencing the same symptoms as during my appendicitis. Not sure what to do.
See your surgeon....: Was your surgery recent? Pains or illness after surgery, especially after what was likely an emergency surgery for you, needs to be addressed by your surgeon. Contact your surgeon to ask questions & make an appointment for evaluation. However, if the surgery was more than several months ago, then see your primary doctor or go to an er to be evaluated.See 2 more doctor answers

Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. Intestinal lining cells replaced ~every 3 days. CaPO4 in bones ~every 6 years, ...Read more
