Avoid processed food


Simple sugars and processed carbs should be avoided or limited. This includes any flour product.. The fine grind makes absorption quick, and spikes your blood sugar which increases insulin and promotes weight gain. Good fats such as olive oil and coconut oil are fine in sensible amounts. Eat a rainbow of organic vegetables and just enough protein.

Unfortunately, the only way to reliably lose weight is to count calories and eat less than about 1200 per day (for a female). This target can be changed on based on your weight loss success. If you lose more than 4lb per week then it can be increased to 1400, if less than 2lb per week then reduced to 1000. myfitnesspal or lose it.com are good resources. Some people do well on low carb diets also.

Avoid fried sweets


As usual, less calories in, more calories burned equals wgt loss. Avoid fried sweets especially around holidays & parties. Be careful of Ghee, curry made w/ coconut or palm oil, lachaparati, roti, and other breads. eat more steamed or lightly cooked veggies, don't drink juices or other sugared drinks. Turn off the internet, TV, and enjoy the outdoors w/ a friend, and walk 10K steps/day!

Insoluble fiber


There are two key features of successful weight loss diets - reduce sugar and increase fiber. The fiber helps to limit the absorption of sugars so you don't get a blood sugar spike and associated insulin spike. Insoluble fiber is the stringy stuff you find in fruits and vegetables - celery carrots, etc. You can't get that type of fiber from a pill nor from blending up your veggies. Cheers!
