I'm frightened of flying will diazepam (valium) help?

I'm frightened of flying will diazepam (valium) help?

Yes, but no alcohol: Diazepam will help to deal with anxiety about flying. Do not take with alcohol. It would also be helpful to have a guided imagery recording on your ipod, which will help you to relax more naturally. If you must fly often, you should consider working with a therapist to de-sensitize yourself and work on your phobia. ...Read more

Valium (Definition)

Valium (diazepam) is an older benzodiazepine tranquilizer. It was the #1 prescribed drug (of any kind) in the us in the late 1960s but is used less now due to drug interactions and active metabolites. It is still used for anxiety and as "pre-medication" for uncomfortable medical and minor surgical procedures. It is habit-forming, should not be used with alcohol, ...Read more

How long could you take diazepam (valium) before the drug is useless?

How long could you take diazepam (valium) before the drug is useless?

I don't understand?: I'm not really understanding your question, since valium is not "useless." the basic drug has a 30-60 hour half-life, and it has psychoactive breakdown products . This is one of the problems with it, especially in older people: it can build up and create longer-lasting sedation & cognitive issues than expected or desired. Tolerance can happen -- habituation, addiction, & withdrawal syndrome too. ...Read more

How long should you take diazepam (valium) before the drug is rendered useless?

How long should you take diazepam (valium) before the drug is rendered useless?

Not so: Valium is not destined to become useless. Some people develop tolerance but most don't the time course is related to symptoms and if one is symptom free, then the suggestion is that you talk to your doctor about weaning off, but talk to your doctor before stopping. ...Read more

After how long does diazepam (valium) not react with alcohol?

After how long does diazepam (valium) not react with alcohol?

Longer than U think: If taken orally (as most people do) it takes the average young healthy person about a day to get rid of half the drug they took. This metabolism is prolonged further with use of alcohol. So best advice.... Several days would be a safe interval. ...Read more

Can o take diazepam (valium) for sleeping?

Can o take diazepam (valium) for sleeping?

Not good idea: Sleeping pills should only be taken here and there, now and then, not everyday for weeks/months/years. Sleeping pills should be effective through the night and stop working by morning, which means they should have short half-lives. Diazepam has a 20-100 hour half-life, so it is still in your system all day the next day and is not a good idea as a sleeping pill. ...Read more

Why can't you use diazepam (valium) for muscle relaxation?

You can: Valium, a benzodiazepine class drug, was one of the first effective muscle relaxants utilized. Unfortunately it is over-utilized. Better, less-sedating and less-addictive drugs are now available. Valium leads to dependence, depression and other mood disorders. It's effects are greatly increased when taking alcohol or opioids, such as vicodin (another over-utilized drug). ...Read more

What are the effects of diazepam (valium) and clonazepam on flaccid penis and erections?

What are the effects of diazepam (valium) and clonazepam on flaccid penis and erections?

They don't help: Neither diazepam nor Clonazepam will help erectile dysfunction. There are also reports of sexual dysfunction with all benzodiazepines. Though not well understood, the mechanism of these problems could be via gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors in the midbrain central gray or ventral tegmental area. However, this is mixed with issues stemming from anxiety itself. Hoping you work w/urologist too. ...Read more

Which of these has nightmares as a side effect? Oxycodone, percocet, celecoxib, or diazepam(valium)?

Which of these has nightmares as a side effect? Oxycodone, percocet, celecoxib, or diazepam(valium)?

Hard to Say: Side effects of most medications are turning out to be highly individualistic and sometimes based upon genetic susceptibility! this is fairly new research. But, it suggests that any specific side effect is not necessarily going to happen to you. That said, with the exception of celecoxib, these drugs are narcotics and/or sedative/hypnotics and can cause "dysphoric" feelings and hallucinations. ...Read more

How strong is Valium or diazepam?

Strong based on dose: Diazepam is usually prescribed in 2.5, 5 or 10 mg doses. The effect of the medication is dose dependent. It is a "rescue" mediciation, not a controller. If you are panicky, it will help you to relax. But there are medications which can help to prevent those anxious feelings in the first place, ssris. Never use diazepam with alcohol! ...Read more
