Unclear: If your are referring to a para esophageal hernia, which is a type of hiatal hernia, it could be responsible for the pain. Can umbilical hernia cause nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, weightloss, strained bowel movemnt (even with loose stools)? Surgeon app. End of month.

Probably not all: Probably not all of those symptoms are related to an umbilical hernia. Most umbilical hernias are small and do not cause that much discomfort, naseua, fatigue, weight loss, etc. If it is really large, it can start having some of those symptoms. But in general, I doubt the unbilical hernia is causing all those symptoms. Good luck at the appt. ...Read more

Stop fiddling!: Your soreness is probably due to your "fiddling" with the hernia Most umbilical hernias do not require repair but you could consult with a General Surgeon about this.
The diarrhea is UNRELATED!

Is it normal to have daily diarrhea after hiatal hernia surgery and on a pureed diet?

Is it normal to have daily diarrhea after hiatal hernia surgery and on a pureed diet?

Not normal.: C.difficile enterocolitis is a possibility. Often peri-operative antibiotics adversely affect the bacterial content of the colon resulting in an overgrowth of a bug called clostridium difficile. This causes inflammationc of the colon lining with resultant severe diarrhea. Stool culture is needed to make confirm the diagnosis. But if diagnostic tests are positive, vancomycin and/or Flagyl is used. ...Read more

I suspect I may have hernia in my lower right abdomen/waistline area. I have also had constipation/diarrhea and a bloated feeling on and off for the last week. Are these symptoms of hernia?

Abdomen Pain Hernia?: Usually a hernia presents with pain ; a bulge more in the inguinal/groin area rather than the lower abdominal although constipation diarrhea ;bloating may be present in large, obvious hernias, in the absence of a bulge consistent with a definite hernia, such symptoms are more consistent with a gastrointestinal problem. An evaluation by your physician or a gastroenterologist is in order to begin. ...Read more

I have a diagnosed spigelian hernia, my right abdomen is very sore but no lump and I have had diarrhea for 12 days. Are these connected?

I have a diagnosed spigelian hernia, my right abdomen is very sore but no lump and I have had diarrhea for 12 days. Are these connected?

Possibly: Spigelian hernias are notoriously difficult to diagnose since the hernia is in the inner muscle layer of the abdominal wall; since there is intact fascia above the hernia, one often cannot see or feel a bulge. Therefore, your pain certainly may be due to the hernia. Diarrhea is rarely due to hernias, but it's possible. More importantly, if you have a spigelian hernia, you should have it repaired. ...Read more

3 months post op. Nissen/laprascopic, robotic, hiatal hernia repair. Recently experiencing painful, debilitating gas& diarrhea. Is this normal?

Not from the surgery: It is very unlikely that these current symptoms are related to your surgery. By far the most common cause of diarrhea is viral infection (enteritis, or gastroenteritis if it involves nausea/vomiting). With any diarrhea, weight loss, dehydration (feeling like you're going to pass out when standing), or fever lasting > 1 day would be cause for concern. Otherwise these things tend to resolve. ...Read more
