Sounds like: Thrombosed external hemorroid. Try otc topicals with hydrocortisone or anesthetic. Lying down to reduce pressure to area and ice pack can also help. If these don't work sometimes the clot needs to be surgically removed. Although painful, this condition will subside. More important is cause of diarrhea. Make sure it is nothing serious. Get colonoscopy if you have not had one. ...Read more

My calprotectin is 59. Other than occasional mild cramps, no diarrhea, constipation, blood or other symptoms. Other labs all normal. Colonoscopy time?
Not necessarily: I'm not sure why you had a fecal calprotectin performed if you have no symptoms other than cramping. Levels are elevated in inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract. If you have a family history of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease a colonoscopy could be considered, but will likely be of low yield without additional symptoms. ...Read more

She recently started Prozac (2 weeks ago), Prilosec (3weeks), and now Lactaid. Started vomiting this morning and diarrhea. No fever or other symptoms.?
Not the vomiting: Is related to meds. Prozac (fluoxetine) can cause chronic nausea but not diarrhea. Prilosec can cause diarrhea but not vomiting. Lactose intolerance can cause both, though taking Lactaid is supposed to treat that condition. I would stop everything and start over beginning with the Prilosec. You haven't been on Prozac (fluoxetine) long enough to withdraw. ...Read more

NOT good if melena: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. Help. My 2y/o has low grade fever, very irritable, will not eat, and has watery diarrhea. Will not communicate any other symptoms to me. Uti?
Gastroenteritis: These symptoms (fever, vomiting, diarrhea) are most consistent with a viral infection: gastroenteritis. You should focus on fever and pain control as well as hydration. It is not as important that she is eating right now. UTI is a reasonable concern and is more likely if she had a UTI in the past, is still in diapers, or has two days of high fever. Call your doctor if concerned about dehydration. ...Read more
