Why do I still have diarrhea after stmoach flu I've been with the stomach flu for 7days now I feel much better no nausea or cramping pain.?
Loose stools is a symptom in which a person's stool (poop) does not hold its shape after it goes into the toilet. Instead of remaining a shaped piece of poop, the poop spreads out in the toilet bowl water. Very loose stool is called diarrhea. Loose stool can be caused by infections, certain foods or drinks, ...Read more

After a week of the flu, I'm not better and have developed a New symptom: diarrhea. What can I do?
Question the flu dx: IF you really HAD the flu, it isn't causing your diarrhea now. As long as your stools aren't bloody, you don't have a fever and your abdominal pain is minor after an episode of diarrhea, just keep orally hydrated and eat smart. Avoid caffeine, milk and fatty/fried/greasy foods. And eat bananas, steamed rice, apple sauce, lean protein and toast [a little jelly is okay, but no butter]. ...Read more
What is to be used for female child of age 2yrs having flu and sporadic diarrhea for the last 1 month?
Tamiflu (oseltamivir) can be used: You can use Tamiflu (oseltamivir) to shorten the duration of the illness if she is still within 48hr window of her illness. Otherwise just let it run the course -usually 5-7days to get over influenza. Sporadic diarrhea of a 2 yr toddler, if otherwise still has good appetite and no weight loss is reassuring. Maybe sure you don't give her too much juice, that can cause loose bowl too. ...Read more

My 66-yr-old dad was diagnosed w/ flu 6 days ago. Only able to eat popsicles, temp around 101 & up. Seems to have diarrhea. Is this normal for flu????
DEHYDRATION: The flu can last 3-14dys, but if diarrhea has developed and feverish persistent I would take him to the ER. Have labs checked and CXR to rule out secondary pneumonia. If the doctor gave him antibiotics he should also have stool checked for Cdiff. Better to be safe and have him get ER eval or rapid PCP visit. ...Read more

Not at first: When you first get "a stomach flu bug", your gut may protest it by trying to shut down altogether. In this stage you feel the nausea and vomiting, because stuff just does not want to go through. It's usually later that the body tries to "wash out the virus" by dumping more fluids in the gut to try and wash out the virus - and then boom, diarrhea. So early on you may not poop at all. ...Read more

Contagiousness: Children should stay home if they have a fever over 101, until it stays less than 101 for 24 hours. If they have uncontrolled diarrhea, most day-cares and schools will not accept them if they have more than 3 loose stools per day, or if the stools are running out of the diaper. Use good handwashing at home to prevent spread among your family. ...Read more
I started with shingles, on antiviral 10 days. 3x's I've been sick with head cold, flu, diarrhea while trying to get better from shingles. Help!
Get lots of rest: You are looking at this problem from the wrong point of view. The shingles is the consequence, not the cause of your problem. It is a recurrence of a dormant or sleeping chicken pox virus from way back when that gets activated when your immune system declines - too much stress, too little rest, or busy fighting another infection. You need to allow your body to recover in order to get rid of all. ...Read more

Had a 24 hour flu bug w/ diarrhea. Diarrhea went away for a day & I had normal stool. The day after the diarrhea returned. Is this normal for the flu?
Unlikely: Hi, usually the immunity the body generates from the bug that caused the diarrhea is what leads 2 recovery from the infection. So unless your immunity took a hit in 1 day or you got superinfected with another bug the diarrhoea does not recur. In most cases though after a bout of diarrhea pts develop transient lactose intolerance-which causes diarrhea. Avoid milk; dairy ;monitor. See pcp if no change. ...Read more
Bloated and had diarrhea after 3 days of being bloated. My stomach is still bloated and grinding. No pain nor flu. Help! ?
Bloating: Many times bloating is related to something you ate, that didn't agree with your body. If you have made any new additions to your diet or had a new food eliminate it. If you're on a new medication, a few more days may be all you need to adjust to it. It can be hard to live while you feel bloated. Try a simple diet for the next few days, and when you feel normal again slowly introduce foods. ...Read more
