Hey,
i think i might have appendicitis because I have the following symptoms; pain in lower right abdomen, diarrhea, and fever. Or is it stomach flu?

If worried, see doc: The classic symptoms of appendicitis are abdominal pain localizing to the right lower quadrant (rlq) of the abdomen, some nausea and vomiting, and lack of appetite. On exam, there is rlq tenderness. If the appendix has ruptured, pain and tenderness may be throughout the abdomen. Labs generally show elevated white blood count. Abdominal ultrasound or ct scan are increasingly used for dx. ...Read more

I have been having diarreah for two days now (with fever at night).. I believe it is a stomach flu. Is there anything i can do?

Diarrhea: If you haven't been backpacking, drank contaminated water, been to mexico or overseas, the most common would be the stomach flu. Plenty of clear liquids(alcohol not included), b.R.A.T. Diet (bananas, rice, apples, toast) are the first line of care. Avoid fat and protein. If it lasts 2 days, you start vomiting, or it's getting worse despite the above, you may need an iv. ...Read more

My 10 month old baby has stomach flu how long or days should the diahrrea last and all the sympthoms? She's in playful but don't eat 2 too much formula

Stomach "flu": (viral) usually last 24-48 hours. Keep baby hydrated with sips of pedialyte/formula/ watered down juice. Since she's playful, symptoms should rapidly subside. Bacterial gastroenteritis' symptoms may be more severe & last longer so that medical intervention may be needed to prevent dehydration. Braty diet (banana, rice, applesauce, toast, yogurt) may help, too. ...Read more

Will the morning after pill work if you have stomach flu or other diarrheal disease?

Had the stomach flu" for 4 days (vomiting /diarehea are gone) but still feel so incredibly weak & just not right - how long does this typically last?

Depends: Everyone is different, and react to illnessess differently too. The norovirus is more virulent, and may cause you to be feeling week for 3-7 days. If you are generally healthy, keep your fluids and electrolytes up, slowly get back to a normal diet, and you should start feeling better in the next day or two. If not beter after 7 days, see your dr. For an evaluation to be safe. Good luck. ...Read more

See your doc: Severe diarrhea and nausea for 5 days is too long. See your doc to find the cause and to see if you are getting dehydrated. Here is a good resource link for you. Good luck. http://www.uptodate.com/contents/patient-information-acute-diarrhea-in-adults. ...Read more

Hi my 12 year old has the stomach flu for a week now and is okay but still has diarrhoea and she still has stomach pain and can't eat any solutions?

Beware of dehydratio: Initially, the most important thing is to avoid dehydration. Watch for urine production, presence of tears and moisture of the mouth, as well as signs of decreased activity or lethargy. Administer oral rehydration fluids, then progress to bland diet If no improvement, seek medical attention. ...Read more

I breastfeed my 9 month old and I have severe diarreha and nausea, what can I take to get rid of this stomach flu?

I breastfeed my 9 month old and I have severe diarreha and nausea, what can I take to get rid of this stomach flu?

Ideally - nothing: Usually acute gastroenteritis presenting as diarrhea and nausea is of viral etiology and resolves by itself over 48-72 hrs. Antibiotics do not help- you should however maintain hydration, especially as you are breast feeding- you can eat bananas, soft rice- these are binding. Yogurt is also good- avoid fruit juices in diarrhea as the high sugar content can make the diarrhea worse. ...Read more

I'm having waves of stomach cramping. Is this stomach flu? It's been like this for a few days. No vomiting or diarreah.

No: If there is no vomiting or diarrhea I would not consider it to be the stomach flu. However, it does seem that your stomach is upset about something, whether it be excess acid or some kind of bug that's just not making you throw up or have diarrhea. If it continues a few more days I would recommend you get the advice and exam from your doctor. Best wishes. ...Read more

My wife and kids have been throwing up and have diarreha off and on for the past 24-36 hours. Thinking they have some sort of stomach flu/ virus. Is there anything they can take or do? And, what can I take to ensure I don't get it? Thanks.

Sounds like it: You're likely correct. For a stomach virus, it's important to maintain hydration (water, sports drinks) and eat a very bland diet as tolerated. Look up the "BRAT" diet. Certainly avoid dairy. As long as there's no fever, it's ok to use loperamide (Imodium) to suppress symptoms. Wash hands frequently and don't share food/glasses etc. See a doc if dehydration or 3 days without improvement. ...Read more

Was taking Dicyclomine and Omeprazole for stomach pain. Stopped taking, and later the same night have stomach flu/diahrea. Coincidence or from meds?

Was taking Dicyclomine and Omeprazole for stomach pain. Stopped taking, and later the same night have stomach flu/diahrea. Coincidence or from meds?

Hard to tell: The doctor who prescribed these drugs needs to diagnose you first before he treats you. Dicyclomine is an antispasmodic, and omeprazole reduces the concentration of stomach acid. Omeprazole can have diarrhea as an adverse effect, but I don't think this is the culprit. How do you know you have "stomach flu?" I need more information to diagnose you properly before treating you. ...Read more
