It is possible: To strain muscles when coughing. I believe you mean that your abdominal muscles feel tight but if breathing becomes tight or difficult -then please seek medical care. Hydrate well. Consider using a warm air vaporizer. Mix several teaspoons of honey into herbal tea with a squeeze of lemon juice. Or make tea with 2 tsp of marshmallow root bark per 1cup of hot water (steep in a covered pot for a. ...Read more

The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

I struggle to breathe through my diaphragm and when I do I cough out bloody mucus. My dr. Said blood is from my sinuses. Nothing is helping it though.

Cough: It's somewhat concerning that your symptoms are difficulty breathing along with bloody mucous. If you have chronic sinus problems it is possible that the mucous is from there, but I would be sure to get a chest xray and a lung evaluation to be certain this isn't a primary lung problem. Good luck! ...Read more

Post-lobectomy for cancer, air trapped, enlarged diaphragm with cough- advise cure. Cough syrup no help. When can I fly - do I test for trapped air?

Check 02 level: Persistent cough post surgery not uncommon due to scar. Fades with time. Ask md to check that your diaphragm moves normally. Air trapping should not be a problem with flight but lower air pressure in airplane at 20000 feet = less 02 in air so your md should check your oxygen level when you're walking (exercise oximetry) to be certain that you do not need to wear 02 during flight. ...Read more

I was having cough for three weeks so advised chest X-ray, which showed cyst in diaphragm. Further I got cat scan but it was clean. What should I do.

What does Doc say?: Please discuss this with your physician.

There may have been a lucent area near your diaphragm, sometimes called a lung cyst, bleb or bulla. Without the x-ray it is hard to know.

If definitely benign or stable when compared to an old x-ray, further workup may not be necessary.

However, if there are any symptoms or concerns, chest ct is more sensitive, specific and accurate than chest x-ray. ...Read more

No cough medication: But keep his nasal passages clear with a cool moist environment. Help him clear his secretions by patting him on the back. Medical care: I don't know what risk factors you might have for an underlying cause, but, regardless, a cough that lasts a month or more requires evaluation. The metallic taste might be an associated symptom, especially if you have infection in your sinuses or bronchial passages. As to the bruise behind your knee, only further evaluation will reveal what's causing it. ...Read more

13 y.O. Hard to breath, consistant cough, burning inside torso, gets a bit dizzy now and then, after coughing feels slight heart/lung burn?

Lung illness: My general rule is that anyone who is finding it "hard to breathe" should see a doctor immediately--not wait. This is just one of those symptoms you can't take chances with. From the information given it is not possible to presume a diagnosis. The most common explanation for all these symptoms would be asthma, which is serious, but without an md evaluation, it is impossible to tell. ...Read more

I am mostly worried about my cough-raspy. Rasp in my throat and chest, after coughing I have to catch my breath, heart racing. Wat is it, see a doc?

Yes....: A cough associated with shortness of breath should be evaluated by a doctor. It may be due to bronchospasm which can sometimes be diagnosed directly by a doctor and sometimes requires testing, like pulmonary function tests. If this is the problem, it can be treated with bronchodilator and steroid inhalers. If you smoke, you need to quit asap to decrease airway inflammation. ...Read more
