Care: New piercings are usually cleaned twice a day. Do not twist jewelry / post. Saturate gauze w saline solution (pinch of sea salt in warm water), place on piercing & allow it to gently drip into the piercing. Or you can buy pressurized saline solution at a drug store. An alternate way to clean navel piercings: rapidly turn over a cup of warm saline on to the piercing. This should create a small ...Read more

Omphalitis: Belly button infections are very rare in adults. It may be due to something as simple as a skin infection or infected hair follicle. I would recommend local wound care and antibiotics. If it returns, a ct scan is needed to check for any umbilical cord-related remnants which may need to be removed. Why does my belly button leak a yellowish clear fluid off and on that smells. Have had 6 belly surgeries.3 that involed insions thru the belly button.?

No: You probably have a hernia and it can be repaired to make an innie. The hernia can be fixed and a cosmetic procedure can be done at the same time. Be careful who does this so that it looks good. However, sometimes infections can occur especially in those whose umbillicus or belly button had for instance a skin fold creating a pocket that is more easily infected and/or much harder to keep clean. This may require antibiotics and even surgery to correct. ...Read more

A patent urachus is manifested by urine leaking out of the bellybutton or infection of the abdominal wall or bladder. Although we usually see it in younger children, it can become apparent in an older child or adult. Surgery is needed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
