As a male, other than antibiotics, are there any other recommended treatments for hormonal acne such as DHT inhibitors?
Big guns: Almost all acne is hormonal. The 5-alpha reductase (dihydrotestosterone) inhibitors actually have found some use in managing acne. Your best choice might be topical spironolactone. If your acne has not responded to antibiotics, you're a tough case. If you're offered Isotretinoin instead, consider it. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a high DHT level. Would a 5a-reductase inhibitor be a better choice for treating my BPH (storage, not voiding, is prob.) than an alpha blocker?
See below: 5 a-reductase inhibitor will decrease the conversion of testosteronte to dht. It takes 3,&sometimes up to 6, months to show demonstrable effect. Alpha blockers start showing effect within a few hours. If I were treating you I would start you on Flomax (tamsulosin). If improvement is less than desirable I would add Proscar (or other bands in same groups). There is also a combination pill which has both (Jalyn). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I've seen doctors saying that there are some herbs that clears DHT from the scalp, but never named the herbs? Can i know the herbs that inhibit dht?
See: Www. Naturalnews.Com for a discussion of som hens that are supposed to prevent hair loss as is apple cider vinegar. Frankly i don't believe it because at your age it is genetic. It also has nothing to do with masturbation . Nothing you have done cause you hair thinning or could have prevented it. There are some drugs like Propecia (finasteride) that can help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it true that Ketoconazole and Caffeine inhibit DHT in hair? There's only one non-prescription Ketoconazole shampoo, might try with caffeine shampoo
No.: Lots of internet nonsense about this. Ketoconazole shampoos kill yeast organisms in the scalp, which reduces seborrhea ("dandruff"), but has no effect on hair growth. There is no credible evidence that topical caffeine will grow your hair. Oral finasteride will decrease DHT (and hair loss), but you'll need a prescription for that, and there are potential side effects that you should know about. ...Read more
Suggest some home remedies to inhibit DHT from clogging onto the scalp, does lower levels of DHT cause erectile dysfunction?
Balance: Dht promotes male pattern baldness. Some herbs inhibit the enzyme that converts testosterone to dht. Excess dth inhibition with potent drugs can cause low libido and erectile dysfunction. Lithium orotate (otc) protects the testes from toxic effects of cadmium that can lower testosterone. Adopt a healthy life style to achieve balance. ...Read more
Can 'topical' finasteride or dutasteride (scalp lotion) inhibit DHT on scalp? ı mean ,can topical finasteride or dutasteride treat male baldness
Yes: High Dht (dihydrotestosterone) is associated w/prostate enlargement (and hair loss). Medical solution is 5ari, eg Finasteride (proscar (finasteride) & propecia) or Dutasteride (avodart), which stops conversion of testosterone into dht. But Dht sits on other side of seesaw from e2 (estradiol) so lowering Dht might raise e2, leading to erectile dysfunction + loss of libido. So be very careful! ...Read more
Increase Estradiol: Testosterone is converted into both Dht (dihydrotestosterone) & e2 (estradiol). Think of these two as balanced on opposite ends of seesaw. If you block/decrease dht, you could potentially increase e2. Too much e2 in men leads to moobs (man boobs), nipple sensitivity, gynecomastia, loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, etc. ...Read more
